little johny is at it again. this is the first step for the mound of boolits i cast
yesterday. clean up the sprue bump so the boolits sit perfectly flat. i know most people the TL leave them laying down. i don't shoot handgun and a rifle with faster velocity and longer range is a differant horse alltogether IMHO. i like to stand them
up to dry and if they are cot sitting flat there will be more alox on one side and
makeing the boolit unbalance. at rifle velocitys it could make a differance. i plan
on TL these and stand them up to dry and then dip the base in a shallow dish that has
alox mix that is about 1/16 inch deep and then stand them up agand to dry. hopefuly
this will make a alox o-ring seal on the bevel part of the base. anyhooooooow
this is the little tool i just made for the sprue cleaning. 2 twist and it's done. i made it
so that i can use differant size of endmills. in the back of my tool is the idea behind
this new tool. i use hydralic jic fittings and the plug caps. the tool in the back is
a 5/8 coupling nut and the hydrallic fitting modified to fit 1/4 inch shank tools,
sanders, grinding stones, ect. u get the picture. jb

How are you controlling the amount of material removed so boolit weight dosen't vary.????

we pilots have a saying, *flying by the seat of ur pants* . for most boolits
2 twists, and for the ones with a biger bump 3 twists. if u examine ur boolits
u will find quite a variance depending on mould temp. when your mould is hot
and your sprue is not cut but a pulled out by the roots and the leaves a rough
grainy crater. when the mould is at the right , the sprue is quite flat. u get the pic.
my goal is to have the boolits sit flat as stated. maybee we could call this thread
**paint can at 200 yds**. hehehehe

Instead of all that, try breaking the sprue with a gloved hand instead of striking it with a stick. Once you get the timing down, it leaves a flat base as well.

i open all my sprue plates with a glove hand only. u take a boolit that the sprue looks
flat and put a straight edge on it or put the boolit base on a flat surface ant it will
rock . on this 6 cav mould the boolits closest to the sprue plate pivit point
leave a bump. i want accuracy and i believe u leave no stone unturned. thats my
story and i'm sticking to it.

Good job Jbunny. I do the same with my benchrest bullets. Does it make a difference. The jury is still out on that one. At first you might think it would take quite a bit of time, but after you get on to it, you can do quite a number of bullets in the lathe.
