Something curious. I measured the hardness along the length of this boolit, patched it and fired it in my two-groove which is known to cut through the patch on the thrust face of the lands.

What we are seeing here is a boolit that was seated in 'waxy-lube' with a small quantity of wax around the case mouth rim. It just so happens that this particulae boolit had harder and softer zones on it and right where the wax 'ring' was located was a soft zone. The wax ring impressed into the boolit and the front section of the boolit exerted a torque across the soft spot and actually twisted the boolit at that point. The shear line is visible. See how the patch cut through forward of the shear line.

The flame cut eroded out an existing fold flaw on the boolit surface. I can only imaging the groove in the boolit directed leaking gases from around the whole of the base shank into that fold.
