Seems there may be alot of new shooters of these custom brass jacketed bullets soon and I thought a dedicated thread for shooting results and range reports may be a lot of fun. I have always enjoyed viewing targets and recovered bullet pictures. I have had severial shooters of these bullets in varrious calibers send me feed back now I just have to find all the comments.

here is a link to some of the 40 cals from 9mms I sent to a friend to try out to start this thread off. He had good results from a carbine and posted some pics.

Please feel free to post pics or links of any custome bullets you have shot, targets/game taken, loading tips or techniques of these custom bullets, recovered bullets to show performance or expansion.

Good shooting guys

First set of targets with my 250 grain 44 out of 40sw. Nothing spectacular but about average for this rifle. Marlin 1894 Cowboy 44 mag with buckhorn sights. I can't shoot very well with this set of sights. And broken trigger finger doesn't help.

No signs of keyholing, nice clean holes actually.

Smaller target is at 25 yards, bigger target is 50 yards.

Here is a report I got back on some .410 225 grain Sniper Bullets made from the 9mm jacket.

Brian,

the target was shot at 25 yards over a healthy charge of h-110,it cronographed at 1750 fps,it was not quite as accurate as 1650 fps. I got pressure signs from the 1750 load and it was not fun to shoot. The pics of the bullets was the best we could do...the largest bullet was fired through 6 inches of wet phonebooks at 25 yards, and it penetrated a 1/2 in board behind the books, then into a 10 in poly pipe where we dug it out of.it weighed 219 grains, the bullet was measured for expansion and miked at .533;not too bad for 1650 fps!

I shot a third group this morning at 50 yards, and they went into a 2inch group for 10 shots, I pulled a shot so the 2inch was really 9 shots, I dont believe it was the bullets fault (61 year old eyes?) most were in a much smaller cluster. The jackets did not have any lead remaining in them after shooting them into a dirt bank at 25 yards,we dug them out and they penetrated about 9 inches into the berm. The small piece of lead was the only I recovered, the rest probably disintagrated, nice expansion! Well thats about it for now, I believe the bullet will shoot well at 1650 fps and take care of any whitetail I drop the hammer on. Nice job! I am pleased.

Brian, are the thin jackets just cases with the rim machined off?

Cut off the top of a 30-06 case so 1.3" remains. This is what I make 44 Auto Mag brass with. It leaves the top off the case to use as a jacket. I cut it off at the base of the neck and use the rest for a jacket. Works very well.

I think I would be able to use the same technique for making jackets from copper tubing. I'll give it a try some day.

Sent you a PM there southern son. I think we can work somthing out. Get me a PM back if you are still interested.

Brian,
Got the PM. I will let you know soon. I am currently on holydays touring. Will have to get back to home to see what I can do and how much money I have to do it.

Brian, you did BOIL those shirts I hope? [smilie=l:

I looked at the Highpoint link. That guy made nice lookin' boolits
swaging lead without the jackets, but I would worry about
not having a lube groove. Maybe he could use the liquid stuff.

My main purpose for the swaging is a Kahr PM40 with polygon rifling,
and a Ruger Deerstalker with a gas port. Supposed to be bad to use
lead in either, though from reading here I understand polygon is not
necessarily a problem with cast, but I'm no expert so will use jackets
for now.

Still looking for a Lee press, hope to get used.

I have read through a couple of the threads on these projectiles. But how does the brass vs. guilding metal jacket effect fowling and pressure. Judging from the loads used, there doesn't seem to be much of an increase in pressure.

The XTP cops are awesome.
