Traded my shootin buddy for one of these things today at the local gun show. Bore slugs @ .457. So for the folks that shoot these what boolit mold do you recommend? I would like to stay light weight to avoid getting my **** kicked, okay I'm a sissy.

There are several that you may like. The RCBS 300 grain GC bullet, the SAECO 300 Grain plain base bullet and the Lee 340 grain plain base bullet all come to mind. I use all three and they all shoot well.

Get yourself one of the Group Buy 330 Gould look alike moulds. Then go harvest an Elk! It'll be fun.:bigsmyl2:

I have the added goodies for the 1886 rounded up and the Lee mold is the 340 grain .457 diameter. Maybe it will do good using these with hard lead and unsized?

I'll second the RCBS 300 GC. Mine drops closer to 320 gr with the softer alloy BHN 11-12. Very nice bullet in the Win 86s. Cast Performance also sells a 300 gr GC they call LBT style that looks nearly identical to, if not identical to the RCBS. It too shoots very well in the 86.

Marvin,
I've come to believe that those who shoot the 45-70 are not sissys. Congratulations on your trade. Pretty dang sure you won't be at all disappointed. Keep us informed tho. Helice
