I could use some advice from someone who has some expertise in reboring and and rechambering.
What I have is an 1895 winchester carbine in 30/40 krag with a 21inch barrel that measures .625 at the muzzel, I would like to have it bored to .411 groove dia. and chambered to .405 win. My question is, is this a reasonable conversion.
Incidentally the rifle is in rough shape and needs to be redone. Thanks Joe

I have done a few. You will run into problems with the magazine, there are four or five different mags for the 95. The 405 and 40-72 are the same. With a little work a 30-40 can be made to do the job.
Delta clear water rebores are good.

Thanks for the replies. I have restored and rebarreled a 95 to .405 from .303 brit.
and had very little mods to the mag. what I was concerned about was if there is enough material at the muzzel to make this rebore. Here's some pics of my completed 95'

Very nice Teddy bear gun you got there! What does the muzzle of your rebarrel measure? The old rule of thumb is .150 per wall or a muzzle dia of .711". The person you want to do the rebore would be who I asked about using the existing barrel. As the years roll on, lighter just seems to be better for me and my hunting rig. TR would be proud of you, big medicine. Scot

I'm a bit heavy on the muzzel it's .750, I really should recontour the barrel and lighten it up a bit as I'm finding it a little heavy as I'm getting older every day ( I'll be 80 this year )
