Finally bought my first 1911. Nothing fancy but so far I really like it. I need to gear up to load and of course cast for it. Been reading here as much as I can find. I want to order a 6 cavity 230 truncated Lee mold. It comes in both the tumble lube and the regular style. Any reason I would not want to go the easy way and get the tumble lube mold? I am hoping to use some of the several pounds of red dot I have with it.

Thanks!

I'm old fashioned, go with the conventional boolit.

I have the regular lube groove TC boolit, but just use LLA on it. Seems to work fine, and it "goes both ways" :veryconfu

45-70bpcr, an issue I have had to deal with in my .45 with tumble lubed boolits is the feed ramp gumming up some. Your can clean the nose of the boolits after loading or do what I do. After 50 or so rounds, I will field strip the pistol and wipe the feed ramp clean with a rag, then reassemble and continue.

Much appreciate the help and offers guys. Thanks hoosier for the offer of the bullets to test. I have tried the regular lube TC 230 Lee and my gun seems to like it so I am ok there. I've never owned a tumble lube bullet and it seems like that would be a time saver, but I am going to go with the conventional lube bullet which HammerMTB says will give me both options. Never thought of that. If the LLA starts causing feed problems I can go conventional.

Thanks much!

I have 2 45s, a Colt and a Sig. Both love the Lee 230gr RNFPTL. For some reason my cast right at 240gr. I use a mix of LLA and JPW thinned with a little mineral spirits.

No problem with the Lee TL 230. I also use either straight JP or JP/LLA 50/50

I have the 230 gr TL. I have no experience with the regular mold, but the TL shoots better out of my Star 1911 than regular factory FMJ ball, so I'm happy with it. Id be glad to send you a few to try, I believe I'm running them down the road with 4.0 gr of Bullseye.

I dont use tumble lube in any semi auto. Its just to dirty and will gum up a gun in short time.
