Grab it! A modernized 38/55 in an excellent platform.

I take it it's a winchester '94 or a Marlin 336. If either grab it quick!

My hunting oartner, a very experienced hunter and shooter, bought one several years back and we ran up some loads with a 250 gr boolit. It shoots very well and its performance on game is excellent. He has told me numerous times it is his favorite rifle and if he could only have one, his .375 would be it. Grab it, it's a winner.

I agree... There are several threads on the 375 Win. If you do a search you will be reading for a while!

I had a big bore and it is one of my many regrets that I sold it. Several years later I found a Marlin 336 in 375. It is a pre safety one and had about 15% of the blue worn off but the worst problem is that it would not shoot either with cast or Barns .375 J bullets. The best I could do was around 4 inches with J bullets and more than that with cast. I called Marlin and asked if they had any 375 barrels but they did not but they did have 38-55 barrels. So I sent them my rifle and it came back with the 24" cowboy barrel and a new checkered walnut stock. It is now my favorite lever action rifle for target shooting.

Anyone who has read much of what I've written here or on Marlinowners knows I had a rather large accumulation of Marlin leveractions until about 8 months ago !

Anyway when I decided to downsize from 90 Marlin's to what I have now I had a pair of Marlin 375's . One was setup with jacketed bullets and the other is setup for cast bullets . Used both rifles to take deer with their perspective style bullets and both rifles shot very very well . However when downsizing I decided to only keep one ! I sold the nicer one that was the jacketed bullet rifle and still have the more marred one that is relegated to the Ranch Dog 379-210GC and the Ranch Dog 379-235GC bullets ONLY ! Unless of course I come up with another Mutant Ranch Dog style bullet for the 375 !

Let me say that of all the calibers I had in Marlin rifles I am pretty much down to the 375 WIN , 444 , 45-70 , 38-56 and 32 Special !
Before I loaded for every lever action cartridge they chambered for EVER except the 45-90 ! And if I coulda found a nice olf vintage 1895 in 45-90 for a price I could have afforded I woulda reloaded for that one as well !

Good evening
I have 2 and there are great. What I really like is that the barrels are a real .375 rather than the .380 plus bores my 3855s are. And if you want to really make a 260 grain boolit smoke the 375 will do it.

I tink that it is a fantastic cartridge. I sold my Big Bore 94 in a moment of weakness but still have my Contender hunter barrel.

I bought a Win 94 BigBore at a gun show about 20 yrs ago on a whim, wow was that a good deal! The more you use it the better you'll like it. Mine shoots 250 grainers and 265 grainers about equally well. Try 5744 powder and you won't be disappointed with the accuracy. It's about as nice a platform for a woods caliber that has ever been made; light, easy to carry, shoots well, and kills like lightning.

I bought a Marlin 375W from a friend a few years ago, haven't hunted with it, but I did o some shooting with Lee's 375 boolit..............
http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l237/Rkring1/HPIM0124.jpg Ignore the 4179 marking, I don't know where my head was that day, but the powder was SR4759, there are two groups at 100 yds, and they are circled, the smaller one has 8 holes in it one is just on the target edge ( black circle). Yeah, I like my 375............

Well to start with yes the 375 winchester is a good cartridge much better than the stupid gun rag writers ever told anyone.
Second mine likes lead bullets just as good as jacketed and I am finding I like the lead bullets better.
Third I have one that has a 20 inch barrel and 26 inch octagon barrel and yes the much longer barrel does shoot better. The short barrel does warm up much faster and that is one reason the gun rag writers didn't like them as the last shot out of a hot barrel could go anywhere.
You will never be sorry grabbed that caliber and I am always looking for another.

That Big Bore Winchester is a wonder to behold. Much stronger gun than the Marlin. Built to take 52k CUP. It's the perfect rifle for the .375 and anyone who's acquainted with the .375 knows it's capable.
