What's your best shooting wheelgun, pistol or handcannon?

S&W 629 Classic DX with 5" bbl and 4X Leupold EER scope. It has shot many 5 shot groups down thru the years that are less than 1" at 25 yds from a sand bag rest. It's most recent good group was with 17g of WC820(lot 47320),CCI 350 mag primer, and Lyman's 429421 at Bhn 14,sized .431 and OAL at 1.710. Velocity was 1144 fps, SD of 28 and a 5 shot group size of .701 inches.

The one I grab most when I want to plink or target shoot? S&W 10 shot 617.

When I want to blast up a lot of ammo in an accurate fun pistol? Walther P22

Deer, caribou or black bear hunting? S&W 629

Critters larger than caribou, S&W 500

Pretty much every handgun I own is accurate or it gets sold pretty quick.

Model 41 without doubt. Next is a Model 29 smithed by Archie somebody (Dirty Harry's smithy) during a police combat readiness meet I was invited to when living close to Simsbury CT. He was the rep for S&W there, tuning everybody's guns, Colt and Smith, autos and revolters. Never seen a smithy since who could tune a gun at a lightning strike's pace. Yes, he did straighten revolter barrels using lead bars of various weights when needed by eyesight alone. Unbelievable, and nobody brought their guns back while I was there visiting him. I was not allowed to participate in the meet. ... felix

Each gun will do clover leaf off a sandbag at 50 feet; 5 rounds (clip) with Remington Target, and 6 rounds of 429421 old WW without tin and 14.5 BD. ... felix

My 1911A1 .45. It just plain shoots. G.I. frame, Springfield Combat comp slide, Wilson bbl. and nicely tuned innards. I can't shoot it as well as it deserves to be shot.

Smith 19 with the Lyman 358156 cast of WW plus a smidge of tin pushed by 13.0 2400 and a standard primer in 357 brass or 358477 in 38 brass backed by 5.0 gr Unique IIRC. Of course if I'd put thousands of rounds through another gun it might be #1 instead.

Model 14-3 K-38 that I've had since the 70's. Shot PPC with it for a number of years, sent it to S&W in the 90's to have the barrel turned in and forcing cone recut. Came back better than before. Feed it the H&G #39 158 RN over 4.2 of Bullseye and if you didn't hit it, you didn't hold it!

Hands down Ruger P-90 .45acp seeing as it's the only handgun I've shot extensively in the last fiver years. The bad influence people here on cast boolits have me tearing my hair out (ok what's LEFT of my hair....) with revolvers now...............

My best shooting revolver is my Blackhawk convertible 45 colt. Running a close 2nd is my Dan Wesson 357 mag.
My best shooting semi has got to be my HKUSP40. Which I only shoot jacketed bullets out of.
Running a very VERY close 2nd place in semi's is my Beretta PX4 Storm 45acp. The 1st time I shot that pistol I put 10 inside an inch and a half off hand.

5 1/2" om flat top 44 spl conversion. You don't even have to aim well, it'll find the target by itself.

Started with a Springfield Frame and Slide. Got the rest of the internals and sight from Brownells. Made the comp, did all the machine work and checkering. If I can hold it steady it will hit where the dot is.

Greetings from Arequipa, Peru again.
Up there in the U.S.of A. my BEST shooting Revolver is my dan Wesson with the 8" barrel.
Then my Sig cal .45 takes the semi auto class.
Down here in Peru it is a Walther P22 with Remington hollowpoints.
Then there is an old Colt 38 Special that will shoot 4 grains Unique & 170 gr Lyman SWC into cloverleaf from sandbags at 20 yds.

S&W Model 16-4 x 6" in 32 Magnum. RCBS 98 SWC drives tacks from 700-1200 FPS.

CZ-75B in 40 S&W is my first-place autopistol. Slight edge-out to SIG 226 x 9mm.

Blackhawk .41 mag 4-inch with anything. Favorite load is 258 grain group buy bullet over a heavy dose of Accurate 9. I had a S&W model 19, S&W 625 Mountain Gun, and three different Sig 226 pistols that would give it a run for its money. If the chips are down it is hard to beat the Sigs, and this is from someone who is a 1911 fan.

I am not including target .22 pistols in this;)

I bought a late 1956 Pre Model 29 5 screw 44 magnum 6 1/2" blue. The quality of the workmanship in this gun is beyond compare.
It is virtually a hand built gun and shoots cast 200 gr and 240 gr bullets wonderfully.
The action is as smooth as glass. They simply don't make them like that any more. I bought it without case and tools....it is a SHOOTER!....and shoot it I do!

Revolver would be a 6" 629 classic with the Aimpoint 2000. My S&W 16-4 did just arrive today, so I have high hopes for it.
Auto would be a S&W 52-2 without a question.

I had the same vintage gun but sold it last year. It was sweet but I didn't shoot it much, too valuable. Even though S&W tries, they'll never make em like that anymore. Some say it's a good thing, I disagree.

Lipsey's Ruger .44 Spl. with a 4-5/8" bbl...6.5 gr of 231, Lyman's 429215 Gc sized .430", Starline brass, Win LP caps. Bullet lubed only with Lee Liquid Alox after sizing. Gps run just over an inch on average, shot sitting with a back rest and the original iron sights. The same bullet sized .432", with everything the same shoots just as well. The larger sizing allows use in a Marlin 336 with an oversize (.432"-433") bore. This bullet also shoots well in a S&W M-29 Classic, and two other Ruger 44's. Win 231 is my go to powder for all hand gun use...allows me to shoot up to at least 1150 fps without undue pressure signs.

Dan Wesson 744, followed by my Dan Wesson 15 and a distant third is a kimber custom classic.
As I get older, more of my handguns can shoot better than I can. I think I can still beat my M37 J frame, but it's getting closer every year.

LeMat

Like Clawson, oddly enough it's my namesake, my LeMat. I've had quite a few BP pistols - some good, some not so much. None of them has come close to the accuracy of my LeMat.

With 22gr of FFFG and a .451 round ball, it is insanely accurate - out to about 35 yards anyway. I found that anything over 22 grains and the loading lever likes to pop up. ;)

I average 2.0" groups at 25 yards with this thing. I cannot seem to accomplish that with any of my other handguns.

Sorry if it sounded kind of redundant, talking about "shooting". I've owned 2 BFR's for less than a year and I've got 1000 rounds easy thru each and can tell you they are both shooters. I'm not shy about taking them to the rifle range. Everything is factory. If it came with a factory red dot I'd shoot that till the lenses fell out. Enjoy the hobby.

My Model 83 w/ a 7.5" barrrel in .454 Casull by FA. It is hands down the finest made revolver that I own. It shoots better than I can. It has been my carry gun up here in the great land for the last decade or so and has put paid too a few moose, bear, and caribou. A damn fine gun.

Pretty hard to beat a 22 pistol or revolver for accuracy. My model 41 in a ransom rest will shoot 100-10X all day long at 50 yards – I can’t but that’s not the pistols fault. My Clark 38 special, Shockey 45, S&W 14-3, 25-2 Bowen built, FA 97 in 45Colt and both BFR’s can shoot better than I can hold and that’s why I can shoot them fairly well. I have found very few revolvers over the years that will not shoot well – most that don’t shoot well have either cylinder throat/bore problems and probably could be made to shoot if you wanted to put forth the effort and time. I’ve seen some ragged looking revolvers shoot extremely well in their owner’s hands, so don’t judge a book by its cover.

What's your best shooting wheelgun, pistol or handcannon?

I have a Ruger 44 Mag 7.5 that has been completely redone, a Ruger Mark I (has a trigger problem), Browning Belgian made 9mm (not sure why I have it), Ruger BearCat that is my companion day and night for snakes/mice/ground hogs/whatever (It doesn't get enough respect) everyone should own at least one.

As for the current Best shooting I would have to say the 44Mag.

As for the future it will be the Ruger 45 LC that 44Man is helping/doing for me. I just don't see how it can fail with the premier pistolero in existence making sure everything is right and I don't make a mistake in it's building.
I would like to say right here that I really appreciate his expert help and advise, he will not be sorry!

My most accurate is my Freedom Arms Model 83 in 41 Mag but the one that is easiest to hit with under field coditions is my Ruger 5.5 inch Bisley in 45 Colt. Trigger job, action job and the throats reamed to proper size. It is just amaxing.

I have three sixguns that stand out from the rest of the fleet and here they are in no particular order.

Smith and Wesson 625 (45 ACP) 5" bbl made in 1989

Smith and Wesson 627 (44 Mag) 5" bbl made in 1991

Smith and Wesson K-38 (38 Spl.) made in 1972

Honorable mention would go to two more 44 magnums

Smith and Wesson 29 made in 1971

Ruger SBH made in 1962

If you are talking about pure accuracy, I would have to go with my Clark Custom Ruger MK II. It has a Douglas barrel, match chamber and 2 lb. trigger. It wears a Burris Speed Dot and if you miss, it is your fault.

Took it out the first time and loaded eight of my handloads in it. At twenty yards all eight went into a group that would hide behind a quarter. A quarter! This gun makes me look awesome.

Mine's a Model 27-2 using 15 gr. of 2400 with Remington 140 gr. bullets. It's the most accurate I've owned up and I've had more than a few. Chargar, if that revolver's really a 627 then I'm betting it's not a .44. lol

Sort of a subjective issue for me.

I have a 1911A1, Ruger P89, Ruger GP-100, Smith 629 that all shoot better than I am capable of holding on target.

BUT, my criteria will be the gun that just naturally seems to hit the target for me, without a lot of careful aiming and body positioning. You will not believe this, but it is a Taurus 606 snubby. Either 38 specials or 357 magnums. In a quick draw situation, that would be the one.
