Does anybody have any loads for the 165 gr RD boolit in the 30-30 using 2400? I've found about every other powder used for this weight but no 2400.

I've shot lots of 2400 with the 165 RD in my 336. I had good luck in the 15 to 17 grain range. I did feel that 17 was about the max I wanted to use. I found it shot accurately and gave around 1700 fps.
I think you'll like 2400 with that bullet in the 30-30.

You say 17 was "about max" . Was that for recoil or pressure?

Asking since the Lyman 49th book shows 18.5gr of 2400 with their 170 grain #311291 for 1853 fps at 37,500 C.U.P. Lyman list 15.0 grains as start load with the 170 grain bullet. I was going to try some 2400 behind the Saeco 150 grain bullet for my 115 pound daughters 30-30. I've noted in my book someone here liked 16.0 grains with this 150 gr Saeco. That sounds about right to keep the recoil down.
We aren't hunting big game with it anyway.

My favorite load for a 14" TC 30-30 with a 165gr cast was 16gr of 2400. I was never a great shot, but I was able to shoot a 39/40 with it several times.

I used 17 as my max for many reasons. It gave good accuracy, was as much pressure as I felt i wanted at the time, and did what i needed. I did try 17.5 and 18 but groups got bigger and velocities were not enough higher to counter any lost accuracy. I went to 30 gr of RE 15 to get over 2000 fps when I wanted the extra velocity for hunting.

In the end- I made a gut decision that 17 was "max" for me and my needs. Like all of us- I sometimes make a decision based upon observations that may, or may not, have basis in sound science but they do let me sleep soundly at nite.

That sounds about right. Thanks.

I don't have the luxery of working up a load for my daughters rifle. She's in AZ and I'm in IL.

Just watch the OAL. I had to trim cases way back in order to get the bullet to crimp in the crimp groove while not being forced heavily into the lands. My 336 has such a short throat that i had to take it into account. I've heard enough here to think that is a common problem.
I like my "real" 165 RD but do prefer the NOE version. Much easier to cast well. But both shoot very well.
