Check out the sig P6's if any are still around. Single stack 9mm. Most I've seen have some blueing wear but look like new inside. Guys I shoot with and myself all bought one. Best 9mm and better than my baretta 92fs. Frank

Sig-Saur's function fine with cast boolits. My vote if I was going to buy a police trade-in as a shooter for my wife would be the old Sig-Saur P-225. A friend of mine went that route and he has never been sorry. They are getting kind of rare, but I saw one the other day at a local shop for about $ 325.00. Great gun, single stack 8 round magazine. I used to have a Sig 226 but it did not fit my hand. wish I had bought a 225 when I had the chance, I'd probably still have it. You might even be able to find a Sig 239 (single-stack 9, eight rounds) but a little newer than the 225. Sometimes a larger store like Cabela's gets them in.

The real deal in PD trade ins are the steel frame Smith & Wesson 3rd Generation pistols. I think the .45 ACP is best suited for cast, but there is no reason not to shoot cast in .40 or 9x19 either.

I would suggest the following S&W's:

4506, 4566, 4586 (.45 ACP)

4006, 4046 (.40 S&W)

5906, 5946 (9x19mm)

A couple of years ago they were everywhere. The supply seems to be shrinking some, but the steel frame guns are fantastically reliable (all of mine will feed empty cases and wadcutters), extremely durable, and nicely accurate (the later TSW guns are extremely accurate). Some folks bad mouth the 3rd gen pistols, but most of those folks have never owned one, or have had a bad experience with one of the alloy guns that was shot out.

P6 with 6.4 gr SP8 (you'll never find any, so ignore this as loading recommendation) under
a .357 diam sized Lee 356-120-TC with mixed brass shoots about 1.5" at 25 yds. This is
a full power load, feeds and functions exactly like ball, zero leading.

I'm not a huge fan of the double action/single action revolver concept, but this is a well
made pistol and is about the size and wt of a Lightweight Commander, would be a good
CCW choice, too.

I have a P6 SIG that I shoot 125gr cast bullets in. My loads were initially a little hot so I backed off the charge a little and it makes the difference with regards to bore leading.

I bought a SIG P245 at a local gun shop that was a police trade in (it was from a local cop). I have 4 other SIGs and various other handguns and the 245 is my favorite. Shoots and feeds cast very well and in my opinion has less felt recoil than a 40 - closer to a 9 if that.

If you want a Glock, get the 21. It will shoot lead with out problems with the stock barrel. It has a large grip so your wife may not like the fit. The 9mm and 40 can be pickey with lead and the stock barrel. After market barrels seem to fix the problem.
