I believe they're made by Mitutoyo. I've had mine for about 12 years now and the scale tape is peeling off the bar. This has microprinted circuits on the underside so it's worthless without it. I guess it's time for a new one. I paid $50 for my 6", back in the late 90's so $12 is a smokin' deal.

I just saw an add for the more useful 6" model on sale for $10 at Harbor Freight right now. !! They may be giving them away but they sure ain't paying us to take 'em so think of the profit margin for RCBS when they sell us the same thing with only a lable change!

Ditto the mark up on all of the Chinese made electric power scales and digital powder dumpsters.

Howdy,
In some of the mags I get, Harbor Freight has a coupon, I think it's like 20% off or something.

A decent caliber they are for sure. A good value for the price yes, yes, yes.

A Mitutoyo they aren't.

I bought the 6" one right after I first started and right after I bough the dial one. Bother work great still for about 7-8 years.

Hmmm, mine looks so much like that and it is made by Mitutoyo.

First, I have no problem with Harbor Freight tools, I have quite a few of them. I even have the H/F 6" calibers both dial & electronic. Also Mitutoyo, Starrett, Fowler, and a Brown & Sharp.

But a Harbor Freight caliber, selling for $10.00 being a Mitutoyo, you gotta be joking. Go down to your local Machine Shop and make that statement and see the reaction you get.

I bought mine over 10 years ago and have no idea what they sell for now. Digital electronics have gone way down over the years and i was only stating how it looked like a Mitutoyo. Ok, I was wrong...........geeeeeeeze

I belive I have seen those coupons in The American Rifleman. They are decent calipers. I have a six inch pair I use at work for "everyday use" when neccessary I double check them with the Mitutoyos

I have had my 6" version for two years. It has just this month started measuring a uniform 0.002" under even after zeroing !

Well worth the $14.00 for two years of use though !

I will try another one.

That's a deal.............but I never could get used to trusting the digital models, same with micrometers, but for $12 if I needed one I'd pick it up just as a spare! Most of my tools are left over from the Mechanic/Machinist days and back in the late 70's/early 80's this stuff was rediculously expensive, just can't believe how far down the price has come.

...........well worth the price if you don't have a pair though!! INVALUABLE for reloading accurately if they are accurate!

I bought one of the 6 inchers identical that one pictured and it works great, I often measure with it and my dial to compare. There is one little problem I had with mine, the foam in lid of the box is snug enough to turn the caliper on in the box. I took a razor knife and removed a little foam to clear the on/off button so it would stop eating batteries.

I have heard of the H/F calibers using up batteries but never had that problemmyself. Never thought of the foam in the cover turning the unit on, or I would have suggested the solution.

Thanks for the info.

I've been using the 6" model for about two years now and it has performed flawlessly. It has had one replacement battery and I keep other spares on hand. Just as I double check my powder measurements, I also double check my mic measurements from time to time. I have a piece of metal that's exactly three inches long that I keep on my workbench....from time to time I'll pick up the piece of metal and mic it for reference - sure enough, it reads 3.00 inches! Can't beat 'em for the price or performance.

I seriously doubt they're made by Mitutoyo, and I have both the HF and Mitutoyo digital calipers. The Mitutoyo is a lot older, but the design isn't really the same.

I also have a 2" starret reference length.

Both the HF and Mitutoyo calipers read 2.000 on the reference (which is 2.0000" at the correct temperature).

Hard to belive they can do that for $12 on sale.
