casca, I'm casting for 6mm TCU using a Lyman 245497. These turn out looking very nice but I have not fired any yet. Just building trial loads now. I'll let you know how it goes. RD

I cast for 6mm, but I had the most success with the RCBS 95gr SP to date. I have the Lyman molds, but with the short throat on my rifle I had to seat them deeper than I wanted. I have not had much success when I get the gas check below the case neck, and with the Loverin designs in my gun that is what I had to do. The 245498 did OK, and I am currently having one hollowpointed to try. My gun prefers them closer to .243 than .244, so I use a 243 push through that I polished to size just over .243. You have to be careful sizing those small long boolits in a lubrisizer, mine bent easily if I wasn't careful. Billy

Lyman no longer makes 243/6mm moulds. No gas checks are available from Hornady or Lyman. They may be available here. http://www.buffaloarms.com/ Seems not a lot of demand for them??

You can get 6MM gas checks from Gater, check the group buys.

You can also get 6 mm checks(Hornady)at Midsouth Shooters Supply. They have them all usually and their prices aren't too bad.

I use that caliber and find that the RCBS 95 grain bullet with 11.0 grains of Unique is a superbly accurate load. I too had trouble locating gas cehcks. Last Fall I purchased a Freechex tool and am happy to say that it makes great gas checks that are as accurate as the commercially made ones.

I like to shoot at steel plates at 100~250 yards...quite amazing to hit a 3" plate at 250 yards consistently with this caliber/load.

I want to make a cast boolit load for my 6mmBR and I am looking at both the RCBS 95gr and the SAECO #243 85gr and for opinions as to witch one would be the best to start off with. I am leaning towards the SAECO #243 as it being a bore rider, and now that I bought a 22 cal NOE 22-055 I will be looking for 6mm gas checks and 22 cal gas checks. Thanks for the heads up on the 6mm gas checks.

The RCBS 95 grain semi-spitzer has shot VERY well in my Rem 788 in 243. 12.0 grains of 2400 is the usual load. Lyman #243496 has done nearly as well, same load.

This is true....

I'm currently working on loads for 6 TCU, 6mm Remington, and 6 PPC so I am finding that there is a shortage of 6mm gas checks. Figured I'd try to get enough interest to get a batch ordered. If anyone is interested please PM me and I'll try to get a bunch in. An order of 10K should be enough to get the ball rolling.

Hey guys,
I have 1000 6mm hornady gas checks that I would trade for .30's

I have been using 25 cal Hornady gas checks on my 6mm bullets. They work OK but it is fussy getting them centered properly. In my bench rest gun I have shot a few 5 shot groups under an inch with these cast bullets. The gun will shoot in the .2's when I shoot bench rest bullets so I still have some work to do. I have asked to going the group buy on 6mm checks so I hope we can get that worked out.

I have Lyman mold 245496. In my Remington 700 6mm Rem made in the '60s, boolits from it will not give good groups as cast or when sized .245, but they shoot fine when run through a .244 sizer.

In contrast, my Model 600 Mohawk in 6mm Rem will shoot those bullets nicely sized to either diameter, and also unsized. With light loads of Red Dot or Unique, it doesn't seem to matter whether the boolits have gas checks or not.

In other words, a lot depends on the particular rifle.

OK fellas...I contacted Blammer about getting 6mm gas checks. He's ordering a large quantity of Gator 6mm gas checks. I'd imagine he'll post them on "DJs Corner" in the Group Buy Loggin Area when he gets them.

The lyman 85 gr245 496 shoots well in my 243's, but anything longer shoots less than great. 1Shirt!:coffeecom

I checked the Hornady web site last evening. They offer the following sizes: .22, .243, .25, 6.5, .270. 7mm/.284, .30, 8mm/.32, .338, .348, .35, .375, .416, .44, .45, .475 and .50. Unfortunately, neither Midsouth nor Midway carries all the available sizes. You might call them and ask if you can get them on special order. Otherwise, order directly from Hornady, but they will be more expensive than they are through the mail order houses.

Stew

Unfortunately, neither Midsouth nor Midway carries all the available sizes....

Midsouth shows them (6mm, 270 gas checks) as in stock, you just have to look in the "Yardsale" section of their website rather than the gas check section.
