What is the difference in Fg, FFg and FFFg. Never shot BP and want to get one of those kentucky rifle kits just to play around with.

Large granules burn a bit slower than small granules. The granules in Fg (also called 1f) are larger than those in FFFg.

Most Kentucky rifles do well with FFFg.

The more F's, the FFFFFFFaster it goes. FFFFg is mainly for putting in the pan of a flintlocks.

I hope its a Jim Chambers kit, or one of the higher quality kits.

The general rule is, if its under $5-700 its not worth owning.

Bore stuffers aren't like modern firearms.

The only "F"s you will have to worry about are

2f 50 cal or bigger
3f 50 cal or smaller
4f flintlock pan

.............Besides the difference in grain size (The 'F's), BP by the various manufacturers is also much different in how it acts. None currently is really as good as some of the better and best BP's from the late 19th century, but that was the only propellant they had. There were literally hundreds of types from a VERY wide assortment of manufacturers, and the art of making the very best had been extremely well developed by that time.
