Anyone care to comment on this mold? Is this a cowboy design RNFP? It looks like it would feed well in a Lever action. Is it discontinued? I couldn't find it in my Lyman Pistol/Revolver Handbook.

I don't own any iron moulds (just Lee so far). What kind of shape does this one appear to be in?

I have one similiar to this--a Lee 158 RNF that is almost identical--it works well in all my .38 Cal guns including the Marlin 1894C Carbine. From the e-bay photos it looks to be in good shape.

Wally, how fast do you push that Lee boolit in the carbine? What alloy? Accurate?

I've actually been trying to decide whether to try the Lee GC SWC or the one you mentioned.

Using 8.0 grains of Unique

6" .357 mag pistol---1,230 FPS
Marlin 1894C carbine---1,520 FPS

If I want higher velocities I use a gas checked 358156 Lyman bullet

Lately I use the Lee 125 RNF more often as it works just as well; I'm trying to save lead as the cost has gone up so much & I have more trouble finding any these days.

While it would depend on what diameter it actually delivers, it looks like an excellent mould.
I like Iron moulds and the RNFP nose shape is about perfect for tube fed rifles.

This just my opinion so take it for just that. But if you want cast for cowboy shooting you should not buy a single cavity mold. The Lee 158gr and the 125 gr both come in 6 cavity. I use both of these with out sizing just tumble lube and load. They work fine in all the 38/357" that I have.
Like I said only one cowboys opinion. 44wcf

IIRC Dean Grennel said that this bullet was for the .38 Colt Special, back when no one wanted to put their competitors name on a Gun. This is also the mold that made what his dentist friend called "a very bullety looking bullet."

In any case, if the cherry number wasn't recycled this design should be from the 1920's or so.

Like 44wcf said, a single cavity will get old real quick when trying to cast large volumes of boolits.
