When I was a young man( I'll not say when) there were many odd ball devices for the home handyman.

I am looking for one of them or plans to build one.
I do not have the space to put a drill press in my garage!
I want to do some jewelling of bolts!
So back in the day there was a simple device that utilized a 1/4 inch drill motor to make a drill press.
It had a post , a spring and a muffler clamp to hold the drill.
A handle was somehow connected to the device to allow the operator to lower and raise the drill motor.

Long winded explanation but you get the idea.

I am looking for one or plans to build one so if anyone has one to sell or will make a drawing of it so I can build one please let me know.
Will gladly pay for plans or drawings.

I know about what you are saying.
Harbor Freight has something like it. Not quite, but something similiar.
I have seen them at tag sales and pawn shops.
It was a tool almost no one used, but they all had one.
If you look, you might find one in the box.

The local hardware store has a model close to this, if you would like I will get you a price and model number.

ETA;
Local store sold theirs and never replaced it, said it took over ten years to sell that one.

Thanks everyone for the comebacks.
Never thought to check out the pawn shops. Aill give them a try.

Brett, do you think one of the dremel types would work for jeweling?
They have them at a local home Depot near me and it would be small enough to store away when I am finished.

There's a reason you don't see those things around much- they don't work very well! A small Delta bench top drill press, or a Chinese knockoff, doesn't take up but a little more space than one of those contraptions and will work ten times better!

I don't see why not. With jeweling you're just spot polishing with a small tool. I'd get a variable speed Dremel and start slow. I know it's done with Foredom tools and that's just a Dremel built 100X better.

+1
I have one, actually only a few years old, that I got from Sears. NOt very efficient for any knid of detail work.

You could use a Dremel, just keep it slow.
I think however, a Chinese table top drill press will do the job also. I have one that I have used for three bolts so far.
I use the Adams and Bennett jeweler. Instead of the cratex grit rod, I never got it to work, I got a Dremel Wire Brush. I got three O-rings and put them on the wire brush part.
Worked pretty well.

.............You can get a multi speed (belt swapping on pullys) small drill press from HF for about $50, that whould have it all over a Dremel in jeweling. A Dremel at slow speed has about zero torque. If you have room for one of those 'Makee-doo" drill press jobs, you have room for one of the small HF units. You can also buy them at Lowes or Home Depot, but they're still made in China.

I've done a half dozen bolts but these are the only 2 I have photo's off. The M95's was a PITA but turned out well. Get the drill press and be happy.

Darn it Buckshot,
Ever time you show that M95 I drool all over the keyboard.
Now I got to spend the day cleaning it.

Man I love that look.
