Recently Acquired an 1894 in .44 mag (ballard). Tried a few loads, lee 200 rnfp+Unique, shot great. The 429421 full loads of 2400, fed and shot great. The 310 rnfp lee + 2400 (seated short), hung up EVERY time but seemed to shoot ok at close distances.

I'm very excited that the Keiths shot and fed great. A little dissapointed the 310's didn't.

Good to know. Just got a 94 myself and was wanting to try the 429-421.

Wow. Hard to believe that they are so hit or miss. The 429244, crimped in the first crimp groove, would not cycle worth a flip in mine. The 265grRNFP does well. The 310 will cycle with some assistance but not reliably enough to take it out for anything that might bite me.

Bula, the 300 gr Ranch Dog bullet should feed much better than the Lee. While Ranch Dog no longer produces molds, the 300 gr is available RIGHT NOW over in the Group Buy Section. The molds are being produced by NOE and the make excellent molds at a very reasonable price. There is only room for one more person so if you want one, get on it!

i just bought a Marlin 94 in .44Mag and it has the "ballard" rifling. I hope that mine will feed the Keith 240s like yours. It will be a month before I can see the rifle again. I bought the rifle on holidays and had to get it posted home cause I can't travel with it. I have just had to extend the holidays by 4 weeks. The suspence is killing me.

Mine is micro groove and all the Lee 240 SWC GC bullets have shot accurate and the bore still looks like a mirror!

Congratulations! Oddly the 1894's do seem to be hit and miss for liking SWC's. Mine never did like the 429421. It would feed but hung up often.

I went to RNFP and had no problems. I wish I had bought a 6 cavity RanchDog 265 gr. mould but do now have a 2 cavity. Looks like one of the last to leave Lee. I was going to order another but they are all gone.

I have since modified the cartridge stop and carrier with some success but still not 100% feeding reliability.

It is odd why some 1894's like SWC's and some don't. You got a good one!

After having problems with the Lee 240SWCGC I decided to try 10 dummy rounds with the 429-421. I seated them to 1.710 as per the Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. They were seated in WW and R-P cases. They fed slicker than snot! I went through about 4-5 load and unload drills and can say I believe they will function 100% in my 94. I worked the lever with vigor and I also worked it gently and slower. It functioned perfect regardless! Next project.......429-421 on Special brass for the wife!

I had to crimp in over the top land using the 429244 in my Marlin .444 or it wouldn't feed.

You'll probably find the Mag brass feeds better than the special brass....I DID!

EMC, let us know how they shoot. A fellow shooter let me shoot his Winchster legacy in .44 mag last weekend. His load, heavy charges of H110 under a 429421--great shooter, boy was that a smooth levering gun.

Will do. I have a large sack of 429-421s loaded with 22gr. Hercules 2400. I also have a handful loaded with 5gr. Bullseye. Loaded them for the wife to see if she likes them.
