I need help identifying these two small items. I am calling the item on the left in the pictures a "sight base" and the item on the right a "dovetail adapter".

Looking at the first picture, the sight base is 1" long x 7/8" wide x 9/16" high. The two large screwholes are not threaded, but have recessed shoulders inside. The two small screwholes in the bottom and the horizontal hole above the rectangular channel are threaded.

Looking at the last picture, the dovetail adapter is 15/16" long x 1/2" wide x
7/16" high. The large dovetail is 7/16" wide x 15/16" long. The small dovetail is
3/8" wide x 1/2" long.

Can anyone identify these items and give an estimate of value?

The one on the left is the basic part of a receiver sight (Lyman?); it screws to the left side of a round receiver (probably bolt-action) through the two larger holes, the lower, tighter curve fitting against the top of the stock. The L-shaped sight arm slides up and down in the wide slot on the flat face, the missing arm extending across the top, and elevation controlled by a screw into the hole on the top in the fourth photo; an adjustable index plate and pointer in the shallower slot (to left in Photo 3) registers position against index marks on the upright part of the arm. (The sight itself - also missing - slides right-to-left across the top of the missing arm via a similar screw and index marks.) It would be necessary to identify the rifle to which the curved surface and mounting screws fit, and find all the rest of the parts. The part otherwise has no real value, except possibly for someone who might want to switch sights between two different models of rifle, and happened to have the same model of sight.

The second, right-hand part is intended to fit in the front sight slot of a hunting-type rifle via the smaller dovetail - these at least are standard 3/8" width except on some of the older Stevens and Sharps rifles - to allow mounting a "globe" type target front sight, usually provided with interchangeable apertures. The upper, larger dovetail and locking notch are fairly well standardized between Lyman, Williams and other makes of such sights. They come in a range of heights, and Williams, Brownells, etc. have tables to match heights with various rifle models and sight combinations. This base is in pretty good shape and would be of some value to the right person.

Carry it in your pocket to gun shows and target shoots, and someone may find it is just what they were looking for.

I hope this helps - at least a little bit.
