has anyone used Whit HOT powder? If you have, what results have you had? Velocity, accuracy, clean up, repeatability?

Its on my list of things to try but I havent been able to find it locally yet, I have used Black Horn 209 and am pleased it dosn't leave a crud ring, I can load ten or more time without having to swab, wheres with pyrodex,777, or real black I had to swab after the first shot or I couldn't push a bullet don the bore.

I bought some , but i have not been out to the range yet. I will try to shoot some this weekend, if the winds co-operate.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/white_hot_pellets.htm

According to that article they are just a rebranded more expensive triple 7 pellet.

I liked what Hawks had do say about Shockey's powder: There is bad, erratic stuff out there, as I’ve previously reported, and it goes by the name of Shockey’s Gold (or American Pioneer) powder or shaving sticks. If you want lousy stuff to burn in your muzzleloader, Shockey has you covered.

GOEX select is exactly the same stuff made by the exact same company....right ??

I did a google on the IMR White hots, it was pretty interesting to see what some writers had to say about it, if it is nothing more than a lily white rebranded 777 they simply raved about it doing things 777 does not do well...............such as firing 10 shots and only having a tiny bit of residue in the bore. I LIKE 777 for what it WILL do, 2-3 accurate high velocity shots before you must clean the bore to maintain accuracy, before BH209 777 was the best thing going for hunting IMHO. But I sure remember what the bore looked like after 10 rounds with no cleaning.

Other then what "writers" have written, I've only found one person that has actually used it (so far), and he raved about how he shot 12 shots without swabbing the barrel. saying that the rifle maintained it's accuracy throughout the shooting session. I was going to take a chance and try it but my local (west Toledo) shop was out, and I plan on hunting this weekend with my new accura. That being the case, I'll wait till we get some good weather to experiment with Whit Hot.

Ok. I finally made it out to the range, and here are the results I got with the IMR white hots. I took 15 shots without cleaning my gun. The first 3 shots that I took were with 2 pellets, and the 300 grain Hornady SST’s. these bullets give me 1” groups @100 yrds. with Shockeys gold. Unfortunately my gun was sighted in for 250 grn. Bullets, and the 300 gr. bullets were hitting well under my target. The velocity’s were 1777, 1790, 1764. I decided to switch to 2 pellets with the 250 gr. XTP bullet I use for deer hunting. Velocity’s were 1895,1920,1923,1927,1938. I tried another 5 shots with the 250’s they went 1915,1955,1936,1952,1871. group size was about 2” for both 5 shot groups. Then I tried 2 shots with 3 pellets and the 300 gr. SST’s. I was hoping with 3 pellets I might hit my target. Well I still didn’t hit the target, but velocity’s were 2146, 2116. That is all the info that I have for now.

rayzer, have you ever used 777 loose powder or pellets ??

If so was the level of fouling different than what you would expect from firing 15 shots of either ?

I have never tried 777. I heard that you had to clean youre gun after everey shot, so you didn't get the dreaded crud ring. I think that I did get a little bit of a crud ring with the IMR White Hots after 4-5 shots. but I just put a little bit more pressure on the ram rod, and the bullet was rammed home. I usually like to get my ramrod bouncing 3 times to know that the bullet is seated properely anyway. when I pulled the breach plug for cleaning, I could not see any visable crud ring. I forgot to say that all my shooting was done at 100 yrds.

There are a lot of shooters using 777 with our NASA lube with no crud ring issues.

You are probably deforming the boolit nose. Mark your ramrod and use a power handle or palmsaver. OR go back to the "Holy Black". It'll help your accuracy. 10 ga

Rayzer is using Hornady SST’s which wouldn't require a lube, but thats good to know. Is the lack of a crude ring with 777/Nasa being used in BPCR, front stuffers (with full bore conicals) or both?
