I ran out of 3031 for my 45-70 the other day and was doing some reading about BP in the 45-70 and decided to try it. Wow it's fun to shoot. It was -10* this morning when I shot so the air was heavy, the shot was loud and the smoke hung there. I hunt with the muzzle loader but this is even better. Of course my wife was not impressed with the smell when I brought the gun in with smoke still coming out of the bore.

I think the only thing that smells better then BC smoke is the smoke inside the turret of an M1A1 when you let the 120mm belch fire. Ahhhh the smell of cordite in a confined space.....I love it.

Welcome to the club!

If you're like me, before you know it, BP rifles will take over your safe.

Chris.

This is the first BP cartridge shooter but it has 5 Muzzle loaders to keep him company.

The stuff is addictive espcially when you figure out a good load and start watching those groups shrink to very small clusters. I can get a 45-70 to shoot better with black that the white powder anytime.

Like Nick said, the moment you get a hint of a possibly good load, it starts to take over. Wads, lubes, alloys, powder compression, lube cookies, each discovery leads to more questions, and even when you find a good load, that won't be enough, you'll want to try paper patching, or a different grease groove boolit, the madness has no end.
