I get to the pile late it seems like & when I do get there all thats left is small rifle magnum primers .
Has anyone ever used these in 357 magnum????
Any ignition problems due to harder primers ????
I have 12# hammer springs in my GPs & they`ll pop any sp primer that cci has.
I bought 100 sr to try , probably be sorry for tryin!!:violin::violin:
But what if they burn IMR 4227 cleanly !![smilie=w:

I've heard of folks using SR primers in lieu on SP.
Follow the standard practice of working up a load, and things should be just fine.

Since the primer shortage started I haven't been able to get any sp primers. I have switched all my pistol loads to sr primers. For some odd reason I wound up with 20k plus on hand,, and had never used them in anything other than 22 hornet & 30 carbine. I have used sr in 9mm,, 9 largo, 38 super, 9x23, 7.62x25, 32h&r,, 38 & 357. and a couple of other pistol cals with no problems. I have had some with 32 acp & 380 in Kel-tecs only. Kel-tec fixed me up with some new springs and haven't had any problems since. Works well enough for me I don't plan on buying sp primers again.
I have used sr primers in .357 and 38 super with good results, will try them in 9mm next.

Been using SR primers on 357 & 32-20 for years. No ignition problems, and get a better burn with slower powders.

I have used both large and small rifle primers in pistol cartridges because I didn't have anything else. I had 2 large rifle primers that needed a double hit in a 45acp

I would do it if I had to, but would buy SP primers as soon as possible. The cup of a SP and a SR primer are identical in size and height, however a LR is taller than a LP. As always start low and work up carefully.

You could stick one in an empty case and see if it goes bang.

Honestly I am considering switching to small rifle primers in my 357 loads as the only 357 I have ever owned is a 10 inch Contender.
Use a lot of 296 and ream my primer pockets for the correct depth so it shouldn't be a problem.
By the way if you buy a Wincheter clone lever gun in 357 doesn't that make it a rifle cartridge??? LOL!
Think I'll load a 100 for my next outing using SR primers and see where that goes.
