Lyman book doesn't list Varget in 30-06 except for the 200 grain 311299.
they show 30 grains for 1588 fps and 38 max for 2017 at 27,800 PSI.

I'd say you'd want at least 32 grains under the light bullet just to get it burning. May look into a dacron wad if you can't get consistant velocity.

Varget is not a good powder for that light of a cast bullet. It will not begin to burn efficiently before you get into a velocity range where accuracy is very, very doubtful with that bullet. However, if you must try then start at 28 gr and work up in 1 gr increments until you understand what I'm saying. Also use a 1/2 to 3/4 gr dacron filler, it will help a little.

I tried some Varget with a Lee 150 gr. flat nose. I took my direction from the Lee reloading book and at 30 - 31 grains I got 4 holes touching with one out. After 32 grains the group began spreading out - quickly. Boolet is cast of air cooled clip on wheel weights with gas check. Sized to .309. Estimate it is going about 2200 fps. Havent done a lot with it but that's been my experience.
