What alloy should I use to cast for a 43 Mauser and a Swiss Vetterli? Thanks.

If you are shooting black powder, a good starting alloy would be 20:1, lead to tin. If smokeless, a 50:50 WW to lead would probably work just fine. Both of the rifles you cite are on my gun bucket list and I wish you the best of luck in loading and shooting!

Remington used 20:1, Sharps used 16:1 lead to tin. I don't know what the Europeans were using. Remington/UMC loaded a lot of ammo for them, though.

I have loaded for the 43 mouser and have used mostly air cooled WW for it with good results using aa 5744. I have also loaded black powder with similar results in my mauser using the same bullets or ones made out of range scrap that I cleaned up. I was able to get the old beast to print groups in the 2 to 4 inch range at 100 yards regularly with the open issue sights. That is about what I can do with any rifle no mater the load with my eyes being what they are with open sights.

I find the harder the better in my Vetterlis, I use 1/2WWs and1/2 Lino., Shoots best with hot barrel. Joe
