I have a Winchester 1886 in .33 Winchester. Recommendations for a boolit mold for hunting and target shooting?
Thanks!

I used the Lyman 338320 in my Marlin 1895 thats chambered for the 33 WCF and it shot very nicely !

Try to find an old Lyman/Ideal #338237. It is the original plain-base design for .33WCF, and is noticeably more accurate than my #338320 for G/Cs in my particular 1886. If you can get gas checks, #338320 is the easiest way to go.

Back when the .33 cal. gas check supply dried up, I started paying much more attention to all my plain-base rifle bullet moulds.

"Supposedly" Hornady is making 338 GC's again !

But like you I've been hoarding 338 checks that I find at gunshows etc !

I have with excellent results used and have customers using the RCBS 200 FNGC.
I am not sure if it is still available as a GC design. I think I have heard it is available as a PB design but do not know for sure.

You are correct , I was going to order the RCBS 33-200 after I got the 33 WCF and once they told me the GC had been eliminated I declined to have Midway order me one !

After that I started looking on Ebay for one and was never able to find one at a reasonable "used" price .

If most of your shooting is gonna be with bullets at <1650fps or so, I'm not so sure you need the gas check version of the RCBS bullet. With a good lube and bullet alloy in a perfect bore, you probably won't get any leading - if the bullet is sized properly to fit your bore.

I frequently shoot the non-G/C #338237 at ~1600-1650fps and never seem to have leading problems - but my rifle has a glassy-perfect bore. If I want to go much beyond that, I load up JFPs.

That RCBS bullet looks like a good one. I'd probably buy that mould if I didn't already have the #338237.

Bullshop's right- that RCBS 200 FNGC is excellent for the 33 Win. You can come pretty close to duplicating it, study all the details!!! Use the Mountain Mold design program, study all the details!!! Order the mold from MM.
