Ignoring (for the moment) actual (gun specific) bullet/bore dia ...

What is the "best" GP boolit/mould for the 91/30 - i.e. one that will make a decent Wyoming (200+yd) Big Game Load?

I've got plenty of Light MilSurp for 'yotes & such (this is my "truck gun" after all), but really think that I can do better than 203gr Bear Soft Point for hunting...

Something in a nice svelt 311284 perhaps ? Or maybe a hundred eighty-five grain flat nose . Drive both around two thousand or a bit less , shoot the mix untill you know where it hits........... Uh ...... How big a critters are ya talking ? Fifteen hundred pounds on the hoof ?

WY Elk would probably be the largest. Most likely Mulie &/or Blue Caps.

I'd like to think that a cast bullet rendition of the mkI load of the 303 British would work pretty well on most anything that isn't going to eat the hunter . Something like that should be easy enough to do in the Russian with a nice bore .

I tend to think of cast boolits in rifles as a 200 and closer kind of solution. 200+ is
stretching things a bit, but not impossible by any means. The issue is likely to be
trajectory. My best cast rifle accy ( and I have not really pushed things for velocity, I
use j bullets for high vel) has been in the 1700 fps range. At that velocity going over
200 may be a bit more tricky - going to have to know your range pretty well and have
tested the ammo for the trajectory at that range.

I'd tend towards heavy and flat nosed or maybe make some softpoints with lead fronts
and harder middle & rear portions.
