This coming spring I might start casting sinkers for halibut fishing. These will range from 2 to 5 pounds. Already have a burner from a turkey fryer and was planning on picking up a 4-6 quart dutch oven.
But what should I use for a ladle?

I can tell you a 4oz ss ladle holds just about 1# of lead.

I got a capacitor cap from an old electric motor and locked vice grips on the screw flange for a handle. It dips up about 4 pounds at a time. Since it has flat sides I can get almost all the melt out of the pot with it.
Rounded ladels will leave more lead in the pot that you can't get. The capacitor cap is for me used only to make ingots and not boolits.
Botton line, nothing special is required. Just try stuff till something suits your fancy.

You could even braze or weld a handle on a soup can.
