One of my crew has a nice Mauser his deceased father set up for him in .338 win mag. He loaned it out to some other co-workers for deer season- And these yahoos shot all his father's hand loaded legacy ammo at the range, THREW AWAY THE BRASS!!! then found out what new ammo costs today. So now he'd like to explore how to get some practice ammo for less than $3.00/shot... His mom did one of those deranged widow fire sales of his dad's loading equipment, so he would be starting from scratch.

A search here shows 2 very short threads. Anyone here loading this caliber?

I shoot two Winchester Mags, one 338-06 and one Ultra, favorite bore size. I've been conteplating shooting cast as well. I'm undecided about paper patching or using a gas check. I'm watching to see if NOE does the version of a Ranch Dog .339 that has been bantered around in the group buy discussion. I'm thinking one of these boolits behind some 5744 would be a great load. With J bullets I really like the Win Mag with any of the 4350's, 4831's and especially like Reloder 19 in it.
If the Ranch Dog group buy doesn't take off, I'll probably just give the Lee a try.

BruceB has done good work with his and the Lee. PM him if he doesn't see this thread.

We dont have any 338 to try in but I wonder how that 250gn 8mm we did as a group buy would work patched.
I think mine drops at about .327" and 250gn in WW.
