I read a thread where a member used rubber mulch as a bullet trap and decided to give it a try. The prototype was an unreinforced cardboard box about 26" x 11" x 14" and had about 6 pieces of cardboard evenly spaced inside with red rubber mulch between. It went real well and recovered many slugs so I decided to build one out of wood, I used 2 pieces of 1/16 metal on the inside back of the trap, as that was all I had laying around, as a bit of reinforcement although in the prototype I used no such metal, most rounds stayed in the box. The only problem I had was with some .44 loads which were maxed and cooking at about 1400 fps, they damaged the back of the trap but I figure I won't be using those again. The following is some data from the rounds I plinked with and their estimated velocity. They worked fine in my revolvers but its for informational purposes only and I would not recommend anyone try them.
all boolits are 1/2 lead+ 1/2 WW AC with felix lube and there were no high pressure signs or leading.

240 gr .44 FPGC NEI mold - 18 gr. 2400 - 1268 fps
240 gr. .44FPGC NEI mold - 20 gr 2400 - 1458 fps
115 gr. lyman 358345 - 4 gr trail boss - 891 fps
160 gr. lyman 358311 - 14 gr 2400 - 1421 fps
160 gr. lyman 358311 - 4 gr. trail boss - 807 fps
245 gr. lyman 452423 - 4.5 gr. trail boss - 726 fps

these were the loads that grouped excellent for me, below are pics of the recovered slugs, most were over 90% intact and unlike using the deflection method of stopping slugs there is minimal dust.
