Ive been having trouble with top punches for my flat nose bullets, the top punches were leaving a ring around the top of bullet no matter which top punch i was using.

Yesterday at work, during my "a$$ time" and having a lathe at my disposal, i was able to make a few "blank" top punches.

These work great! Only took me about 20 minutes to make. Not too shabby for a supervisor with a machine shop at his disposal. Just wanted to share..

Nice job, but I would have recommended cleaning the top punch and using something like JB Weld to form a perfect match to the boolit profile. You place a boolit in the sizer with a release agent on the nose and then with the top punch having a dab of JB Weld on it lower the top punch onto the top of the boolit wiping the excess off and let it harden, after you can polish it with sandpaper by putting it in a drill.

interesting.. will have to try that on my round nose bullets assuming this would work for it?

You could actually counter-bore your flat punch, and then use epoxy in it the way Doc describes. This should make you a nice form-fitted punch and eliminate that nasty ring on the top of your boolit.

The JB Weld works, some people even use hot melt glue. I have SAECO sizers and every time I use a Lyman or RCBS bullet mould I use JB Weld to do as I described.

I have used the 2 part putty as described and has worked well after it gets hard. FYI

I have taken several top punches and chucked them in a drill then went at the edge with the edge of a file or a bullet shaped stone for the dremmel (held in my hand). Worked everytime!
