As I am on vacation till Jan 4 I am hoping to get out the shop and make a derimming die for 22 LR's. ? If the temp warms up some. To those of you who have one, is it hardened??? Does it need to be.??
is the punch hardened,?? What is the ID of die and OD of Punch.?? I am thinking that for derimming I can make the die id at .228" and the punch .212". Sound good???? Not good??? Thanks for any replies.

I think Corbin's is smaller than your numbers. I can't measure them right now , but I believe somewhere in the .220 for the hole and .200 for the punch. Finished jackets are around .220 or so. You have to take the case a little smaller to smoothly remove the rim I heard, plus the jackets need to be smaller than the bullet dies.

My ring die is definatly hardened, I don't know about the punch, but it is no where near as hard as the die. You probably want to harden it. It takes a lot of abuse.

Mine are both hardened. The die is .218-.219 and the punch is .195-.197.

I think a 7/32 drill bushing and a 5mm drill bit shank would be a homemade combo that would work. .21875 and .1968.

I have 5mm drill rod that I hardened and it works well for me for the punch.

OK thanks men, that's just what I needed to know. thinking about it now the making it smaller part makes a lot of sense.
Another? I will eventually be making 243's would the sizes hold true for making those? Again thanks for replies.

dragonrider,

I have used Corbin's re-riming die for 243 jackets too. The die is the same die used for the 224 jackets. The difference is the punch. The tip of the punch is the same as the 224 punch but where the mouth of the 22 case hit as the rim is smoothed out the punch tapers to about .250. You don't push the jacket through the die like when making 224 jackets. So you end up with a jacket that is about .220 at the closed end, unchanged from 22 lr size in the middle and flared at the mouth. The flared section will fit snug in the 243 core seating die. When the lead core is seated the jacket will expand to conform to the core seating die interior.
