I'm so impressed with the .44 310 gr Lee boolit that I'm wondering about a .357 "cousin". Maybe there is such a thing already, if so please lemme know about it!

In the meantime I was daydreaming about the timeless 358156 GC made a little longer with a fatter meplat. Get it up around 180 to 190 grs and keep the two crimp grooves....

Whatchoo think?

I just got done casting a few of those lees yesterday. Never loaded them and haven't figured out a load yet. I have rugers that I planed on shooting these out of. What loads have you had luck with? BTW yesterday I also casted some of the lee .45 300 gr GC. You ever messed with that one in .45 LC?

Sadly, at present, I have no vehicle for my favorite cartridge, the .45 Colt. I'm looking for a good used Ruger SBH stainless "Hunter" in that persuasion.....

But, the .44 I can help you with (along with JudgeBAC) as we're in the middle of some load development. I'm using increasingly heftier charges of H-LilGun behind that 310 Lee. Last time out I was at 18.0 grs for just about 1300 fps in my 10" barrel. That's not max yet and the more I've increased the charge, the tighter the ES/SD have become.....

"De Judge" is using H and N-110 for his loads....

The 310 Lee is an amazingly accurate boolit and should be a hunting projectile par excellance! (a little french lingo there....heh heh)

Best,

Dennis

I think SR-4759 may be worth a "shot" too, but won't develop the velocity that LilGun will. I've had some excellent groups using that powder though....
Here's a target from an honest 150 yds: (19 grs SR-4759, RCBS 250K PB, 1270 fps)
It's a very accurate and mild kicking load....(If you want to do a little "long range varminting"!) ;-)

Now, back to the .357 idea....

yes I load the 300gr lee for my two 45 colts a redhawk and a bisley and if you need a load try 21.5gr of w-296 or h110 with a standerd lp primer not mag here is a group I shot the other day with this loag out of my redhawk at 50 yds and yes that was with a scope

Gang-I don't have the Lee mold yet, definitely on the "To Buy" list though; however bisley45's load strikes a very familiar chord. I load 21.5 gr of H-110 behind a 320 gr Cast Performance for my "Bear Load" in the Redhawk .44, (I tone it down to 20.0gr for the SBH) both group as well as I can shoot a handgun, nothing like bisley45's pic though. To get back to the .357 I have used a Cast Performance 200gr that looks very LBT'ish, maybe you ought to try there Bucks? I can send you a few if you want to check them out. Anyway, take care

I have the .358 mold you refer to. I like it, alot. It shoots accurately though I'm still devloping a load for it. This boolit will be my next 6-cavity. I like it even better than the 158gr keith type RCBS mold. Absolutely awesome for speed loaders. If you want, we could arrange some kind of boolit trade.

Search the group buy thread for the 180 gr fpgc. This is a copy of the lbt 180 fpgc and the last time was the 3 go round by my count. It willl probably begin again when someone suggests it. Gianni.

Jason, I have one compound word for you.

Overkill.

Dennis Another one to consider is the rcbs 35-200, with 12.6 of 296 you get 1300 + and its not max pressure. the only problem is, when loaded in 357 cases it is a little long for some revolvers. My solution, load it in 38 sp. cases, and it fits in every thing, for revolver, single shot and rifles. I have never found a 38 spl. gun that would chamber it, as the nose sticks out the front of the cylinder, but I mark every box as 357 Mag Max not to be fired in 38 spl. I also never load that bullet deep to fit a 38, so if I see it, it is only fired in my 357's. DM

I actually have a Lee prototype two cavity mould for the .357 version of the
C430 310 RF GC. I have some cast up but have yet to run them through a revolver. The bullet weighs 180 grs has a GC and really "looks" good. We'll see what happens.

I have every reason to believe that it'll work just as well as the .44 and .45 versions do.

I have plenty of 296 around and a couple of rugers that are begging for that. Will try in my bisley and a couple of BHs of various barrel lengths (nothing scoped). Thank you much for the info.

Ah ha! THAT'S the one I want! :-D

I'd be glad to help with a little "load development" using my machine rest......

hint hint,

Dennis :-D

(Is it the ONLY prototype?) :(

Excellent group amigo! I would think that load is getting 1200+ fps?

LOVE that .45 Colt cartridge.....
