After seeing Dukes post with the blasphemous lever gun with the Burris on it I succumb to the dark evil forces. I love this thing . The 444 and the Burris should be an awesome combination in the thick FL swamps for fast hog action.

You know I've been looking at those. I have several scout rifles with the Leupold IER scopes on them and I love them. So how do you like it for target aquisition and accuracy?

What size is the dot?
The pic is not very good. It is a 4 moa dot and it is pretty clear and defined for 50 yd and under which is my intensions for this gun. I wanted a heavy hitting brush gun for fast close in shots in heavy cover.

That looks like a nice setup. I put a red dot sight of somewhat larger dimensions on my 45-70 handy rifle this past fall for close in deep woods sighting. My eyes have gotten to the point that I can't see iron sights anymore in deep cover. It worked great as I shot a nice 3X4 elk at 30 yards with it.

It looks better than a Williams Foolproof, sorta blends in more and is balanced either side. Don't mind it at all. I was thinking if you had a color case hardened gun you could get someone who could paint well to match the CCH with model paint.

This one is the Fastfire II which is the new model that is supposed to be water proof. The sight was 179.00 and the Marlin 336 mount was around 20.00 I think. According to the info I have read on line the new model is supposed have a really long battery life. I know someone that has one and says that when he goes out to the woods he turns it on as soon as he gets to the woods and doesn't turn it off until he gets back to the truck. He goes every week while General gun season is open (Here in FL that is from early November to early Janurary). This is his 2nd year with it and is still on the same battery. So estimating so far that is about 120-130 hours of continuous use not including range time. I have read that it will last somewhere around 3-3.5 years continuously on but the Burris website only claims a 5 year life but doesn't say under what use.

arcticbreeze, a hunting buddy of mine put one of those on his gun that did not have a rheostat too change the intensity of the dot and he found out that it was too bright for early dawn or dusk shooting. He said it was like having someone shining a light in your eyes making it imposable to see what he was going to shoot at. Check it out in low light conditions before going on a hunt.

Come now, don't like the lines of the williams FP? - looks as natural as peanut butter & jelly.

Humbug, just paint the receiver case color flat black to match the sight - it would look much more natural.

I've used similar sights on my handguns for the past 5 or 6 years, a Tasco Optima and a J Point from JP Rifles. The previous poster is correct that the lack of brightness control can be a problem and as the plastic lens gets scratched over time you get a halo effect around the dot. For close fast work they should be ok, I would like them much better with a brightness control.

We've had an Optima on my wife's 336 in .30-30 for 7 or 8 years now. She's killed several deer with it after it got so she couldn't see the iron sights in low light. It is easily good out to a 100 yards with what I believe is the 3.5 dot in it. However, as mentioned before, the glare can be a problem, especially if you wear glasses. Of course there is a lighting situation that's better or worse for whatever sight you have.

You can mount a scope on the rifle first, then use another scope ring pointed up from the scope, to which the Optima is then mounted. This can make for a quick, light, combination that perhaps has a tactical advantage. The scope for longer, better lighted situations and the red dot for quick, close and darker. Or as an alternate, if one sight system fails.

I agree. There's lots of worse-looking arrangements out there. This may be a solution us bifocalled geezers may want to consider. Maybe not to accept right away, but strongly consider. As I said once before--the contours of this, looking at it from the side, are kind of reminiscent of the old Winchester sight that 32 Specials came with way back in great-grandpappy's day, as the black powder era was fading out. A little bigger, maybe--but looking at it through over-65 eyes, and not wanting to lug around a levergun with a scope--well, just maybe there's something to it. That doesn't mean I'm willing to stoop to using jacketed bullets in a fine rifle like that one, though.

Top set up, very neat and unobtrusive. Great thing about electrodot sights is they are a natural to use with both eyes open, perfect for busting pigs up close as threy break cover.

I bought a slightly larger Artic Fox Electrodot sight to scout mount on my Rossi but could not bring myself to mount it, fitted a Tang sight instead . It has 7 stage brightness adjustment and 4 dots to choose from. The sights sitting comfortable on my Marlin 782 .22 mag at the moment

I have used some of these mostly on handguns and the better ones let you turn them way down in brightness for low light conditions to all the way up for shooting at high noon in bright sun. I also like the fact that you can change the reticle size and or shape.

I guess I must easing up a bit in my old age. This looks like something useful, even though it is a new idea. To me, it looks like it doesn't detract from the handling of the gun at all--and it doesn't magnify, either. Looks to me like a new-generation of Williams foolproof with old-geezer friendly modifications. As a bifocal wearer who has no use for scopes on leverguns, this looks like it's got possibilities.

I reckon it looks O.K. but I also reckon it will be fast and accurate. Accurate is always more important in a rifle than pretty.

It is, it really is. I was debating about sight options for my Marlin and when I saw what had been done I thought well, why not? As of now I've got a cheap Tasco on it because I wasn't sure if I'd like it or not and I can always put it on my Ruger Mark II if it didn't work.

Well it's probably still going on my Ruger in the long run. But only because I love it so much and am going to save up to get a real quality one in the future.

Being a card-carrying member of the Sightless Senior Shooters (SSS), I'm going to join the dark side too. With the device properly mounted, and a bit of practice, I'm thinking it'll make a workable peep sight. Anyone else tried shooting with the dot turned off?

I would not leave the Tasco on it very long. I put a TruGlo on mine and loved it until the 45/70 beat it to death in about 40 rounds. I will be putting an Ultra Dot on it at a later point. I got a threaded XS sight post and a Merit #4 adjustable aperature and am going to play wioth that for a while.
