The Swag-o-matic seems like it would be a perfect press for making gas checks. Starting with a pre-cut metal blank, form the check on the upstroke, and eject on the downstroke.
For the die set, you could cut a nose punch to the interior check dimension, and cut the forming die at the outside dia, with a step in the top to hold the metal disk, and bevel the transition. The standard bottom punch should work fine.
I know the swag-o-matics are getting pretty rare and there are other gas check makers out there, but it seems pretty workable. Wish I had access to a lathe, I could test out my theory!
