I haven't been casting bullets as long as many of the guys on this forum but, if I were to guess I'd have to say I've bought and used enough Gas Checks to make at least one car payment -possibly even one house payment- for one of the fat cats that are in charge of manufacturing commercial Gas Checks.

This question you've posed kinda makes me want to get out of using Gas Checks all together. I've been lurking around the Paper Patching posts for some time now.
Once I get done with my present Cast-Boolit related project, I believe I'll move on to trying my hand at Paper Patching.

I would love to learn to paper patch myself. But in the mean time. I will make all my checks. I enjoy making them and probably takes less time than paper patching.

Just this past summer I shot a whole sheet of aluminum 12 inches wide by 10 feet long making 6.5 gas checks. That's not to count all the other caliber checks I've shot.

For me it's some where between 1 and 2K. I have only been shooting cast in one gun for about a year and a half. I used to shoot silhouettes for a good many years but when my emphysema got to the point that controlling my breathing became difficult I gave it up and took up benchrest cast bullet shooting. Ten minutes to shoot 5 shots, that I can still do sitting on my . I'm still learning but having fun !!

Since moving away from the Burrito Bandito venue, my usage of gas checks has slowed markedly--probably halved. I have used more plain-based revolver and autopistol boolits, though.

please say it isn't so
An interested group would like to know who will keep buckshot honest if you leave the burritos shoot on tuesdays?

I used to use a lot of checks. But when the prices went to stupid , I now only use them on a very few guns. 2-300 a year........Buck

Most of my cast bullet shooting is with plain based bullets but I go through a 1000 or so 30, 32 and 6.5mm checks a year in rifles that require them.

I shoot plain base most of the time. I shoot cast mostly in pistols, and my marlin 357 and I don't need a GC . When I do shoot them out of my 7mm/08 it is rare, and I shoot way less then 1000 per year. I Shoot mostly j-works in the 7mm.

Almost a third of what it was 5 years ago.

Still use them with 358156 but since I don't have a .44 anymore (for now!) I use far fewer GCs. I'm trying to stay away from their use in my .45 Blackhawk or maybe limit GC design boolits to one or two. If I find I need more than a couple thousand a year I think I'll start making them though at current prices. Dang, handloading has gotten expensive in the last decade! FWIW, Dennis

I don't like the price hike on checks either. Primers fall in there as well. The combination of the two along with powder going up has slowwed me way down on load work. Then avalability of all of them combined chaps me even worse. Seems you can get one or two, but not all of it in a sizeable amount.

Near as I can figure, around 37,000 this year. I size bullets part time for a commercial company.

Mostly .30 cal checks here with .22 second. last couple years has been slow but PB pistol shooting increased. Thanks to Bruce B. my use of cast in the gas guns is now using more checks. :)
