mold for m1 carbine

Im thinking of getting a mold for 30 carbine. I was wondering for 30 carb. do I want a Gas check or will plain base work. I will be tumble lubing. I was thinking of the following molds let me know if anyone has any exerience with those boolits in a m1 carbine.

Lee molds-tl314 90swc, 311 100 2r or c309-120 r. I like the idea of a tumble lube swc, I just don't know if it will function. please let me know thanks guys. I will be getting just one mold, just want to get the best one

I have been using the Lee 309-120-GC, mainly because it was the ONLY one I could buy when I got my Marlin 62. I have not checked recently to see if the buying frenzy is over yet.

I size it to 0.309" and lube it with Lee Liquid Alox after sizing and seating the gascheck. It work fine. Don't have experience with any others.

Yes the 311-100-2R will work just fine. I've reloaded thousands of rds using the bullit and 12=14 grains of 4227. Also gives excellent accuracy.

Yes no problem using the plane base bullet. I size it to .310, and use a lube concoctionof my own consisting of beeswax, parafine, carnuba wax"car wax", and a small dash of moly. I get NO Leading at all and have yet to have any problem with the gas system, with way over 8,000 rds thru it.

Actually the round end up looking like a comercial hard ball round other than its lead of course.

I've no idea how it would feed in the carbine, but the Lyman 311008 is a fine performer in a Ruger 30 Carbine Black Hawk, a Contender 30 Herrett and 2 30-30's. Loads I'm using' prolly wouldn't cycle the carbines action.

The 311008 is great in the .30 Carbine but you sometimes have to bump the nose to a slightly smaller and more rounded profile to get it to feed./beagle

I can't comment on the specific molds you mention, but I have two GB plainbase molds and have had zero leading problems. Here are my two boolits. They were both from group buys run here. Both weigh 120 grains. I mainly shoot the flatnose as it is just a bit easier to cast due to the single big lube groove. It feeds flawlessly in my Inland, but the Saginaw SG I used to own wouldn't feed it.

I'm told that some carbines that are prone to lead may need gaschecked boolits, but the majority (including the two I've owned) shoot plainbase boolits just fine. IMO carbine ammo should be cheap and plentiful, and a gascheck keeps this from happening.

I load either boolit over 11 gr of Alliant 2400. I have found that the fattest boolit that will chamber easily usually shoots best. I tried sizing .309 and got shotgun patterns. .310 was a bit better, but .311 really shot well. I also found that my unsized boolits (cast close to .312) shot as well as the .311s, still chamber easily (althought the loaded rounds do look a bit pregnant.) So now I just shoot them as cast, loaded with LLA. That six banger mold turns out a PILE of boolits in a hurry, I don't have to spend time lubesizing each one or spend $$ on a gascheck.

I size to .310, but I doubt .311 would hurt at all. Sizing as small as .309 I would think allow gas blowby, which could lead to leading

If you can find one at a decent price, the 311 359 Lyman is a superb performer in my Std. Prod. Mine weigh in at 120 grains ready to load, including gas check.

The gas check may be a fiscal drawback, but the total reliability makes up for it in my book.

what about lymans 311410 it is a 130 gr bb i use it in me carbine .
feeds great groups fair but i never tried to get any better .

I have 4 moulds for the carbine: Lee C309-113-F / Lee C309-120-R / Lyman 311359 / Lyman 311410. I have not had the opportunity to case any from the C309-113-F but have used the other three. Here are a couple pictures of the three I have used:

The top is Lyman 311359 - bottom left is Lyman 311410 and bottom right is the C309-120-R.

Here is a picture of a couple of loaded rounds using C309-120-R (bottom) and Lyman 311359 (top). I have found that sizing to .310- .311 works better than the .308 or .309; however, accuracy is not so well after 50yrds with any of them. They are all pretty good plinking boolits for relative yardage situations - and a lot of fun!!

The Lyman 311410 is a plain base boolit and all the other as gaschecked.
