I am interested in viewing some really accurate 45LC bullets that have proven them selves to be very accurate with a "Round Nose Flat Point". The model number would be a help if you happen to have it, but I can look it up so don't go out of your way. I forgot to mention I would like this bullet to weigh in the area of 260 grains give or take, if in doubt tell me about it.

The Lyman 454190 is a classic, and my personal favorite, very accurate. Lee also makes a 250gr~255gr RNFP which works quite well (sorry can’t remember mould #).

2ndamendmendment have you ever played around with this bullet (Lyman 454190) at long range, like 2 or 3 hundred yards?

I should have said I am not interested in Lee bullets/molds.

No. The furthest I have ever shot these boolits has been 150yards. The six shot group measured 12”. The load was a BP load fired from a 4 5/8” Ruger NM Vaquero. All my shots hit the target so I was happy.

I have found that the Lyman 452491, 230 grain SWC/GC on top of a stiff charge of 2400 or AA #9 keeps a group in the one to one and three quarter inch range at 25 yards.

I also like the Lyman Cowboy RNFP on top of the same charge of 2400or AA # 9.
Both bullets do well with Unique, but Unique is a might bit Dirty.

Lyman's 454424 Keith SWC also has a good track record on top of 2400. Just be aware that the best accuracy depends on throat to bore size compatability. I never could get my old S&W M25-5 to shoot worth a hoot unless I was using hollow based bullets. Sold it and got a Colt Anaconda. The difference in accuracy was like night and day. I stll have the Anaconda and it handles everything I shoot through it with better accuracy than I can hold.

Lee's Semi wad cutter 252 grain bullet works well for me. I had ordered the Flat nose round point and the gun shop ordered this one by mistake well at the Time Lee was about 6 months behind on their orders so I kept this one. It shoots so well I told him to cancel the round nose flat point one. If I ever find one at a gun show cheap I may buy one then. RNFP

At 250 yards with a 50 yard zero you probably have about an eight foot bullet drop. That assumes a bc of .25 muzzle vel of 1000 fps.:Fire:

Are you talking riffle or pistol boolit? 200 yards sounds like you're looking for something like the SAECO #015, 300 gr.RNFP riffle.

I give up.

Do it the old fashioned way then. Step 1 buy a gun, Step 2 buy a mould, Step 3 shoot the thing. If it shoots good, there is no step 4. If it shoots Cr@ppy, go back to Step 2. Repeat until happy.

I have been shooting 454190 out to a couple hundred yards. I hang an old propane tank from a wooden tripod and set something on top of the tripod to use as an aiming point. 454190 was one of the few bullets I tried that flew true for me at longer distances at modest velocities (900-1100 fps).

The only problem with 454190 is that it does not have much of a meplat. Great for target and short or long range plinking, may want to find something with a larger meplat for hunting.

The most interesting 45/plain based/midweight designs I have seen recently is the new 453640 being offered by BABore. If I I didn't have a bunch of 45 molds already and was looking to buy a midweight 45 mold for handgun hunting that one would be at the top of my list. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=66230

The Lyman 452664 is a really good round flat bullet design for the .45 Colt. It has a wide enough meplat to hunt with but should feed well in a lever action rifle, also.

Thank you, I'll check it out.

I have the 452644 mold. I use it for my Marlin 1894. It is a nice bullet. It is similar to the 452190 but has a slightly larger meplat. Bullets drop .454 out of the mold and I load as cast.

the lyman 452664 is the number you want. it crimps properly for the leverguns, has a nice lube groove also
plain based no problem it's square.
iv'e run it up over 1600 in the levergun with 2400. it kills deer rather well also.
i have even tried to hollow point it [really not necessary]
it shoots well at 750 fps through the sixguns also.
i so far still prefer it to the 454424,which is primarily gonna be a revolver boolit.

changeling, Gbertolet, & runfiverun;
My bad! You are absolutely correct - the Lyman bullet is 452664 (typo).

I might mention that it has a single, large, square bottomed grease groove that holds enough Emmert's home mix or SPG for black powder shooting, also. I have only shot this one in a revolver but several friends have used it successfully (at least with smokeless) in the lever rifle.

The 454190 mold I have is stamped from Ideal and it is a bit tired from years of casting. The bullet will shoot just about forever as far as range is concerned, it is really an accurate bullet at all ranges. It will even kill deer and raccoons, all Ive ever shot with this bullet in a 45. It will ricochet unlike a Keith bullet so be careful for you folks back east.

I have loaded the 454190 for use in lever guns as well as revolvers. I have always gotten good results from it, though I haven't shot it past 75 yards or so.

That 452664 looks pretty good, too. I have the 427666 for my 44 wcf and it has
been a pleasure to cast and shoot. I really like the big grease groove mold designs.

In my Ruger 7 1/2" Blackhawk The 255gr LRFN .052" over 14gr. of WC820 at around 1200 fps is very accurate. This is a hot load for the Ruger Blackhawk or contender only.
