the rifle is a Steyr pro-hunter in 450 marlin
22 inche barrel with 1/14 twist
http://i705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/michelmongrain/IMG_0543.jpg
the scope is a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 with NPR2 reticle
http://i705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/michelmongrain/IMG_0547.jpg
the rings are from NEAR MFG in Alberta Canada
model unimount 3 rings
http://i705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/michelmongrain/IMG_0546.jpg
the picatinny is also NEAR MFG and as a 10 MOA
http://i705.photobucket.com/albums/ww57/michelmongrain/IMG_0545.jpg
winther being here and as soon as weather permit will give you a range report
will be shooting a 550 gr bullet at 1550 fps, the 10 MOA piatinny should bring me dead on a 100 yards without scope adjustment
the NPR-2 reticle will anable me to shout accurately to 500 yards the reticle as 15 bars 2 inches apart so even before turning the turret I am 30 inches over at 100 yards than the scope as 110 minutes of adjusment

You should set the barrel back a thread and re cut the chamber using a 458x2 reamer. That way you can use any brass that was for the standard H&H belted case.
I dont expect the 450 Marlin case to be long lived.
No real difference in performance between the two. The 450 Marlin is kinda like the modern 348, being an only one. By that I mean its the only one that uses that odd belt thickness.
The reason for the thicker belt was that in development it was discovered that with standard belt a loaded 450 cartridge could be loaded into a long magnum chamber such as a 300 Weatherby or similar.
Cases can be made from standard H&H belted cases but it requires a different method of headspacing.
The Marlin 450 and the 458x2" also called the 458 American are peas in a pod except for the belt thingy an the .1" increased length of the Marlin version.
Nothing new under the sun really.
Why I wonder such a fast twist?
Nice looking outfit BTW, I really like the ring set up.

I knew this before buying the rifle
but thank you for info just the same
bought 1000 450 case with the rifle
so by the time I will be true with them I will be to old to endure the recoil
got a ruger no one in 4570 and I am still shooting the same 500 case bought with the rifle 8 years ago shot about 5000 rounds with it
never shoot full load so the case has a long life....
WHY THE 1/14 TWIST WELL ITS THE SAME AS THE 458 2 INCHE THE SAME THAT YOU PRESCRIBE I SHOULD HAVE
AND THE SAME AS THE 458 WINCHESTER MAGNUM perfect for heavy bullet!
might be getting to you latter for some speed green heard it was good in cold temperature let say -20 and up....

Canuck4570, seeing that makes me wish I could see out of my right eye. I only have vision in my left eye and I got rid of all my right handed gun's for lefties, lever actions and single shots.

well I am a left hand shooter but shoot also from the right
but more natural from the left
I have a ruger no 1 in 4570 and I shoot it from the left, shoot great If I had to choose between the steyr and ruger would be difficult

I shoot hand guns from both right and left hands using my left eye but with long guns I have to shoot left handed.
