Ok, I know Lee is supposed to use 10:1 Pb-Sn for their alloy with a gas check.
My boolits cast from PURE LEAD are dropping at right around 294gr. With the gascheck seated, it still only 302.5gr
Using #9 magnum shot, I get 285gr before gascheck. (so, with highschool chemistry as my guide, I am getting shot that is right at 6-7% Antimony)
My Lyman #2 alloy is dropping right at 280-281, which corresponds to 90:5:5
If I use the Lee formula of 10:1, there is no way it could drop a 300gr boolit.
If folks are getting boolits that weight more than 300gr before gas checks, what the heck are you using? Depleted Uranium?
My results are the same with both 2 cavity and 6 cavity molds. I have tried this with both cool and hot mold blocks.
Should I be worried? (since everyone seems to believe actual castings with WW are much heavier)
I also tried this with laddle poured and I only lost a few grains with either alloy.
