Does anyone know if you can shoot the .454 Casull out of a .480 Puma? I am going to Bud's Wednesday and will be purchasing a Puma lever or a Glock 45 gap. I wanted a .454 Puma but if I am correct the only Puma levers they have in store are a 44 mag, 45 colt, and a .480. If the Puma doesn't work out for me I will pick up a Glock 45 Gap. I normally wouldn't fool with the Gap but where I cast and reload it shouldn't be a problem.

Unless I misunderstood your question, no you can't. .454 Casull is .452" boolits, .480
Ruger is .475" boolits. 2 different critters.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know why but I seem to remember reading that you could shoot .454 in a .480. I knew right off that it didn't make sense but I know nothing about the .480. There must be some other caliber/cartridge that you can shoot in the .480.

You can shoot a 480 Ruger (Linbaugh short) in a 475 Linbaugh chamber but not the other way around.
BTW what are they asking for the 480?

I really don't want to get into any more calibers as far as casting and reloading goes but might have to. I could just get the 45 LC but had my heart set on a .454.

You can shoot 45 Colt out of the 454 Puma. I do in mine all the time. I bought the 454 instead of the 45 colt to have the option and to get the recoil pad. Mine is stainless with H-Viz sites. I love that little gun. There are a few on gunbroker now.

Taurus has taken them over. Page 6 of thier 2009 catalog lists the 454. See if this link works.

Jack, could that have been an S&W .460 you were thinking of? They don't make a .460 rifle, as far as I know, but the pistol will shoot 45Colt, .454, and.460.

Yes, that might have been what I was thinking of. :D

as far as cast boolits in a glock, may want to research that a bit, most suggest an aftermarket barrel for that.

an aftermarket 45 GAP? hmm,

may want to hang on to your $'s till you get what you want.

is the puma a top eject?

Yes, the Puma 92 levergun is top eject. Winchester Model 92 clones made by Rossi, now Taurus.

Went to Bud's today and looked at their Puma lever rifles, the only one they had in the store was a 45LC model. Almost bought it until the guy at the counter informed me that evidently there must have been some kind of internal problem at Bud's. I originally inquired about the Glock 45 Gap after not finding the Puma of my choice and the guy informed me that that offer was through the other store that was not connected with them anymore.

I still don't know the whole story but I have the feeling the split was not on friendly terms. I asked the salesman if he would call the other store and see if they had any of the Glock 45 Gaps in stock so I wouldn't make the trip for nothing but he informed me that he wouldn't. He did give me the number though and I called and was told they did have the Glock in stock.

The salesman told me that the other store wouldn't carry any lever rifles so I told him that was OK as I would just get the Glock and be done with it. I did manage to get me 3 canisters of 4227 powder that I was out of at this store.

I drove the 20 minutes to the other store, a store that I never even knew existed before until today. They had a really good selection of pistols and revolvers and other firearms. I got me one of the Glock 45 Gaps for $379.00 and had just finished filling out my paperwork when I turned around and don't you know right there on a table with some other rifle boxes laid a Puma .454. I couldn't believe my eyes.

I yelled to the salesman waiting on me "hold it, hold it". I asked if he had already processed this purchase and he said no. I explained to him the Puma .454 was my first choice but didn't think they carried any lever rifles because that was what I was told by the other store.

I asked the gentleman if it would be OK if I got the Puma instead of the Glock and he asked me why I just didn't get both. My wife was standing beside me and she said "yes, why don't you just get both?". She said I had been the best husband any wife could ever ask for and that I deserved both of the guns and more. Well, I did embellish a little but she did tell me to get both.

You see today is our 38th wedding anniversary. Yep, been married to this woman for 38 years today. Mine and her only marriage. We went on this trip to splurge a little on each other. So not wanting to hurt her feelings I did what she suggested.

I forgot to add I got the Puma for $389.00. I didn't know any of the Puma rifles come with a scope mount already installed and a cheek pad.

EXCELLENT! Ya, they made that "special edition" with the cheek piece and scope mount. You are gonna love that Puma. I've got a 335gr cast bullet load that is coming out of the pipe at 1950 fps. And it will hold 10 in the tube! That's some serious firepower. The Cowboy Assault Rifle :D

One day I shot 3 as fast as I could with open sites standing, off hand at 100yds. Here's how it shot. It'll shoot one ragged 10 rnd hole off the bench at 25 50 yds. With a scope you could really get that thing dialed in.
