Good day all,

I just purchased a little Rossi 38 revolver. I does not have a model number listed that I can find. I need to determine this in order to source a firing pin. How do you determine the model number?

Thanks in advance,

Everett

Best I could offer would be a trip through Gunparts, and try to match up a photo. I had to do that with a Western Field .22 rifle once.

Thanks a bunch guys. I got it. In case someone else has the same problem the model number is stamped on the frame under the cylinder crane, below the serial numbers stamped in the same location.

Everett

This obviously old news but I finally got this issue resolved.

No help from Taurus. No readily available info. But after about 3 hours of internet searching, I found a reference to J-frame S&W parts interchangeability. So I went to Numerich and pulled a schematic for the J-frame and purchased a couple of firing pins to play with.
When I received them, they were only consistent in the rivet hole to firing pin nose geometry. I file fitted the pin through trial and error until it cleared the hammer slot in the frame and would protrude as required.

All is still good after 450 rounds fired. Everything from target wad cutters up through service loads.

I'm confident I got it lined out. Finally.
