I have a 6.5 jap a 6.5 carcano and a 6.5 swede, is there one mold I could buy to feed all three, I know the Carcano likes .269+ sized cast, I haven't slugged the other two. I am looking for a plinking boolit. A gas checked design is ok with me as I have fired some full house loads in the Carcano and I have a good supply of 6.5 checks on hand. I figure I could leave the checks off for my 10gr of Unique loads.

I've used the 140 grain GC bullet from RCBS with excellent results in Swedish Mausers. However, if your Carcano needs a .269" or larger bullet, there may not be one mold that will work well in all three rifles. The Swede and Japanese rifles are likely to be much closer to the .264" of a proper 6.5mm bullet and one mold should work fine for them. You may require a custom mold for the Carcarno.

My new Cruise Missles are dropping .270. It could be sized down if needed. Kinda heavy, but might be a 'do-all' for the 6.5s. I'll be honest, I haven't loaded or fired one yet. I went on a binge and bought about 8 molds in the last two months. Now I've got a grip and will start loading and shooting more and shopping less. My 6.5 gas checks are coming on the next GB.

BaBore has just finished developing a 140ish grn gas checked slug. He calls it the "268469" and the molds are available for sale through BRP Custom in the vendor sponsor section. Here's a link to the thread describing this design with pictures from the test mold: http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=69019

Hope this helps,:D

I just bought a Lee cruise misslie from Midsouth for my Carcano I picked up the other week. My Carcano is spot on .269 in the throat. I went with the cruise missile, much as I am loathed to buy a Lee mould, due to the flat nose and good girth.

Do you think you'll need to fill all of those grooves Joe? Pretty nice looking boolit , Bob does nice work on the designs.

Yes I do feel I need to fill all those grooves as I've shot one hole groups with two 6.5 rifles. That's proof enough for me that I'm not over lubed, especially in super fast twist barrels.

Of course Joe is using the soap scum collected from the ring around his bathtub as lube.:bigsmyl2:

Oh wise guy.....just for that I'm going to shoot lousy groups with your bullet and post them. :bigsmyl2::kidding::kidding:

By the way the bullets have aged enough and I'll shoot them as soon as it warms up some and the foot of snow is cleared off my shooting bench, plus provide the power lines and their support poles don't fall on me.

You may anyway. Last time you shot groups, with that lube, it was warm out. I would be shooting some of your other loads for reference first IMO.

Besides, if you backed off another 75 yards, so you were really shooting at 100 yards, I'm sure they would open a bit.

Last time out with that lube it was cold and with the MAS 49/56 which shot a very nice group indeed.

Keep telling you and others...I have a good lube going.

Well, we had a really nice day here in my part of TN. It was suppose to be high winds and rain. It was that last night and wee bit this morning, but the afternoon turned out bright and sunny and in the 50's. With that said I went out and did some test shots with BaBores remake of the Lyman 266469 in my 6.5 Swede and 6.5x54MS. Test loads as I don't feel I have the right powder for that bullet so I used the powder that shot the best with the 6.5 Kurtz bullet. I got 3/4 inch groups with both rifles at 100 yards. The bullet looks very promising. I'll tune that even further. These were above 2000 fps loads.

My old single cavity Lyman 266469 drops about .270+ using ww/lino at 6/4. Don't know if they all did, but this one is a keeper.

The older ones seemed to drop the larger size. Then Lyman got a hair brain idea to down size them.
