i see on here occasionally the question: i have x-pounds of lead, do you think i have enough? sittin' around on this snowed in day and was reading in e. douglas branch's the hunting of the buffalo and ran across this: "the wagons carried one ton of ammunition-sixteen hundred pounds of lead, and four hundred pounds of powder-besides shells, paper caps, and other accessories." so, i guess the answer would be: can you ever have enough? for what it's worth, bubba. merry christmas to one and all.

You can never have enough. Especially on a metal that is likely to face tougher and tougher regulation in the future.

No I don't have enough lead but then I don't have enough money to buy anymore right now either. So I guess I have what I need considering everything.
I sure don't want to have a ton of lead to move around but maybe 750 pounds would be nice just so I have some.
Primers and powder are cyclical for me I go from having enough to not enough and with the current shortage of primers, powder and bullets one has to have some money stashed so when they show up you can buy what you need.

Yup! And now that you've posted your list, the Obama administration has it. Do you think they don't monitor this and other websites? It's why I never answer questions like "How many...do you have" or the like. Security from big brother starts at home and on line.

I'm not saying you should post everything you own online, but as long as it is legal I don't see too much of a problem with it. If you are REALLY worried about the Government knowing what you are up to then you should never even frequent a site like this, or join the NRA or belong to a gun club or buy stuff from Midway or Cabela's. If they want to the Government can look up way more than you can imagine, it's individuals coming to my house and stealing my stuff that I worry about.

Its all good. There are so many people on the watch list that it is easier to count who is not on the list. Like underlining something of interest and getting carried away to underlining everything. It loses its value.

I own a bunch of machine guns, short barrel rifles, short barrel shotguns, supressors, and other assorted federally registered weapons and accessories. If they are coming to get them, I am already at the top of their list.
I am not worried.
If they are monitoring this list, then the goverment has more employees than East Germany had in STASI.

I completely agree. I am not even casting much, but have all the gear & about 1200# of various alloy. That's only about 40K bullets depending on size. For now, I still buy my plinking bullets, cheap enough from 2Alpha. I cast my big bores & at the rate I shoot them, that 1200# will last a long time. Still, I am collecting where ever I can. Ya just never know.

I have about 1000lbs of wheel weights and 200lbs pure. I can get all the range lead from my club as long as I dig it out myself, our president is happy that I do it once in a while. I know a guy who has 1600lbs of lino that he doesn't use... I can buy as much as i want... and will do so when winter is over! I know a tire shop near by that has FOUR 50gal drums filled with wws. Two of the drums are old and do not contain zinc and steel weight AND the sorted out the valve stems etc a long time ago. They to will be payed a visit when winter is over!!

Ha! Too bad you are across the pond. I would volunteer to help move & sort for a portion of the booty. Don't let that one slip away. I would expect a 50ga drum to have well over 1200# of ww![smilie=p:

I did a calculation and as lead weighs 11.3kg per liter a 50 gal drum that equals 200 liter would contain 2.260kg of lead or 4.982lbs IF it was solid lead which of course it isn't due to the metal clips and suck. But i would think they contain somewhere between 2000 and 3000 lbs

You been sneaking up on me with your danish! How to you know? And a merry christmas to you too ;-)

Yes you guys have it pretty bad with all the regulations. NOBODY here bothers with casting and the very few that do obviously have enough as I can get them from everywhere. Here the problem is the 5 years since the contamination of worthless weights started.

When I get me melted these unpolluted drums I'll never need lead for the rest of my life!

I don't think it's possible to have too much. Lead is harder and harder to come by.

more worried about primers than lead, got access to all the range scrap I can dig for personal use, and periodic access to all the range scrap I can dig to sell/use. usually only sit on 1-2k lbs, but right now only got about 300lb range scrap, 200 lb WW, 700 lb junk(uncleaned range scrap, still full of grass, clays, wire etc...), and 800ish lbs of organ pipe.

never enough, every time I hit it big, I need money bad :-( probly gone through 3 tons since this time last year, shot and sold.
