Hello, it's me again looking for help. I have a Marlin that I assume :oops:is a 1893 in
38-55. serail # 91xxx ( it dosn't say 1893 on it anywhere, could it be any other model ? ) any idea of the thread pitch for the tang sight screws ? looks like maybe 10-40 ?? I know #8 seems too small and 10-32 is too course. thanks. I made a home made tang sight and when it was all done i couldn't mount it :-(

That would be.......#8-40tpi.

Might be someone has already used oversize 8-40 screws......Brownell's sell um.

enfield,

Would you mind sharing a photo of your homemade tang site? :bigsmyl2:

 ummm it's a bit on the crude ( i'll just see if i can make something that will function ) side. I'm not real savy on the posting picture thing . I will see after I make it work and beautify it a bit first. I milled a base from a block of plastic and am using a long #10-24 screw and two of those long nuts and a couple lock nuts , a few strategicaly drilled holes and I should end up with a poor mans lyman type sight:veryconfu. I think I have a #8-40 screw but it does feel loose in the hole, maybe someone did oversize it ? thanks for the help.

Send a PM to Buckshot and ask him. He made a set for me to go onto a Lyman adapter made so as to not have to drill any new holes in the tang. He had the pitch for the long tang screw nailed at 28-TPI if I remember correctly but ask him for sure.

Mine says "Model 93 on the upper tang but that doesn't mean they all do I suppose.
