The price of primers here (Hawaaii), is rediculous compaired to a few years ago.
Just paid $32.00 for 1000 LR.
Cheapest I could find by a lot.
I know it's got to be cheaper in the states.
What is the average price where you are????

I just recently paid $45. $32 isn't a bad price at all and that's not even concidering where you are. The price is rediculous everywhere compared to a few years ago.

actually $32 is a GOOD price around here. Before the 'stupidity' took hold you could get 1,000 of them for $20-25. Now avg price is close to $30

Last time I looked at primers on a shelf it was $80 for 1000... Haven't been to a gun show since, and no store around here sells reloading gear for metallic cartridges.

Wow!!!!
I didn't know the prices have gone up so much.
I would have thought they would be way less in the states.
I think I got a good price because he's a friend.
He brings in ammo, powder, primers.
Used to bring in cast bullets, but I think he gave that up.
Runs a small home gunsmith business.
I normally buy a case of 5000 at a time.
Just opened a case, so I thought I had better get another.
I was kind of hesitant to buy it at $32.00 for 1000.
It's way more than I paid a few years ago.
I think I paid about $79.00 for 5000.
I'm now glad I did.
Think the price will ever go down to what they were before Osama ????

The sad fact is that once a price goes up due to demand, it rarely comes down to its "pre panic" level. Once the dealers know they can get more than they used to, the new price becomes a "standard". It will drop slightly, but the only way it will be at the old price is if everyone stopped buying the product resulting in an overstock situation. Fat chance!

One bright spot is all the hucksters that bought primers by the case intending to sell them at an obscene profit are now stuck with a lot of inventory they can't move. $80.00/1000? Hah! Serves 'em right.

Last fall ('08), when I restocked on "essentials"...powder, primers, and some milsurp JBs for my Garand...I paid $127/5M for W-Ws. Earlier this fall (09'), I picked a thousand Federal Mag LPs for $34.95 + tax from a local shop. There still appears to be some scarcity of SPs and SRs (any brand) around here but, all in all, I think prices have begun to stabilize.

Stopped in to a store near me yesterday (Sat) to browse a bit. Store was very busy to me, but the guys there said it had slowed down some for the day already. Anyways, primers $39.95/1K, unless you wanted match grade then $49.95/1K. Powder ranged from from $26-29/Lb on one brand and from $22 to $36 across all. No limit on primers though and seemed well stocked.

I gave $28.95+tax at a small gun shop in western Nebraska a few weeks ago. Prices vary quite widely across the state.

My Brother called a few nights ago with an offer from a friend of his, actually a business associate. The guy deals on the side in powder, primers, etc., and is selling SR primers to us for $29/K. Must buy in 5/K lots, but that's OK with me.

The SR is all he could get just now. I hope some others turn up later.

Old threshold of comfort was 1000 primers. Now, because of the latest shortage, it's more like 5000.

Last I paid for primers was around $30/k, but I had to buy 5k to spread out the hazmat fees.

Was at my friendly, price gouging, neighborhood "Shootin' and Blastin' Emporium" just the other day. They had a carton of WLPs for...... get this.......$49.95!?! A NICKLE APIECE for primers! (My boolits are way cheaper!) I disgustedly bought $20 worth as I was down to a couple boxes and primers still seem scarce around here. Oh well, supply and demand, we can only blame ourselves for creating the shortage, but we can blame some gunshops for the silly prices! JMO, Dennis :x BTW, scrap lead goes for 90 cents a pound now too but even if I bought all my lead, a 250 gr .45 Colt boolit wouldn't cost a nickle...) :cbpour:
