you make a box out of plywood and you put a aluminum plate on one side

inside the box a light bulb that is 1 1/2 inche from the plate 60 watts

the plate is 1/2 inche thick

here is a view of the bullet on top of the plate

the goal is to heat the bullet up so the hard lube will stick to them much better than if the bullet are at room temperature
the bullet temperature was check with a candy thermometer and they go up to 98 degrees
this box was made after a should do by the gentleman at red rooster lube the ideal temperature he told me was about 100 degrees
I can say it does a great job it stick's the lube better to the bullet and you are able to notice when you try to take it of you notice a difference from a heated bullet compared to non heated bullet
also when you lube them the lube goes around the bullet much easier and your lubing job is a pleasure
take about half an hour to heat up the bullet

Since the thermal expansion of the lube & laed are diff. What happens when the bullets cool off?

I've always warmed up my bullets before I lube them (pan lubed bullets only) and have had great results with the lube sticking. Granted, this is a soft lube so it tends to stick well anyway. I have been meaning to try pre-warming some bullets that I tumble lube as well. I am curious if it helps the Alox dry any quicker. Seems I keep forgetting that I want to try this out when I have bullets to tumble lube - note to self...

Yes it does.

Heat the boolits in a warm oven, or outside on a warm sunny day for a few hours.

Oven works better in the upper midwest winters. ;-)

don't forget also to regulate the heat on your seizer
just put a stove heat control switch on your heating plate

Nice looking box/heater. I pan lube a lot and I put the bullets/pan/lube in an oven @ around 175 degrees for 20 or so minutes. This warms the lube and bullets to same temp. and the lube sticks to the boolit through handling and shooting. I usually cut the boolits out of the lube (my lube is too soft to push out cleanly) using a home made tool; stsinless steel tubing reamed to .430" and tapered on one end. I use a home made lube and Carnuba Red. In regards to the thermal expansion, I believe the lube is flexable, pliable enough to withstand any difference. Works for me...

I have used a old hair drier with good results. It is surprisingly fast heating up the boolits this way

Man that is a nice setup, VERY nicely built. I usually just stick 'em over by the wood furnace for a couple of hours and the works real nice.

I LIKE THE heater control setup -- where did you get the stove control?
