2400 is my powder of choice for cast loads but I am out and have about a half a pound of Unique to use up before I start buying some new powder. Bullets are spitzer shaped cast gas checked that weigh just under 165 grains with the gas check and lube. The first shots I shot with these bullets using 16 grains of 2400 shot 4 shots into a inch and a half with a flyer to make it a 5 shot group at 50 yards. Not that great but it was a start anyway. Bullets shot to the right but I have heard others say that their K31's seem to shoot cast to the right also. That brings up the question can you tap the front sight to move it or do you have to have a tool? SO any one have any suggestions for some Unique loads? Thanks Jim

.............Try 10 to 12 grains. Should be happy with something in that area.

Unique almost always produces best groups at the top of its burning range.

I am at work now, but I think I worked up to 14.1 grains of Unique with a Lee 160, gc, sized to 309. 2 inch group but to the right.

Yea I do not know why but others have said they shoot to the right using cast bullets. Jim

I use 10.0 of Unique behind a 165 grain FNGC bullet that M/M made for my 30 Remington. The load shoots as good as I can see with Irons and I plan to test it with the scoped rifle soon. I don't use Unique for any loads over 16-1700fps as I feel it builds pressure too fast. For a hunting or long range load I have had excellent results with W/W 748. I am currently getting 1 1/2" groupd at 100 yards with this powder and am running right at 2000 fps with a 180 grain bullet.

That's excellent shooting and not too shabby of a load either. I"m glad someone else recognizes how Unique powder builds pressure fast.

I used Unique in rifles when I first started casting and loading 40 years ago. I used 12 grains with 311291 in 30-06, and it was good for knocking over cans at 25 yards and shooting at 50-foot pistol targets at 50 yards with my first 03A3. The first time I got into a good prone position and fired at 100 yards, it was unsatisfactory. Playing with the charge, bullet alloy, and lubes made no improvements: no matter what I did, they would not hold the ten-ring. I switched to 2400, and have never looked back. It is the most reliable powder I have found for loads in the 1100 to 1800 fps range, from .243 to 50-70, including 7.5 x 55. I think I still have my original can of Hercules Unique from 1965.

Your mileage may vary, but I would recommend that you get more 2400.

Resp'y,

Yea I plan on getting more 2400 I like it. Maybe I will use the Unique for some plinker loads for my 30/30 and some plain based bullets I have. Jim
