I was casting with my 2 cavity Lee mold last night and realized that the pin that holds the left side of the mold onto the handles had worked it's way about 3/4" out. I was nearly through anyway so I let the mold cool a little and then put it on a flat surface and tapped it back down flush with an 8 oz. ball peen hammer. Other than friction is there anything holding the pin in place? If it comes out again should I loctite it or is there a better method of keeping it in place?

Locktite won't work---as the mold gets too hot---you have to carefully peen the edge where the lin enters the mold to prevent it from dropping out--others have removed it, tapped and used a screw in lieu of the pin...

acl864,

Re-peen, as Wally said, using a punch a bit larger than the hole. Tapping will work, too, but the hole is close to the edge of the mould and there may not be enough metal to work with.

With that mold, if you take a nail set and smack it, it will move metal tighter on the pin. Do it on both sides.
One of those things that happen.
