It's my Hummingbird gun. Notice the wood. Prettiest gun I own and I built it. 38-55
If 45s are the deal and 40 s are rat guns, someone said a 38 must be a mouse gun, someone else said ,Na, might be good for hummingbirds though. Thus the name......
The actions are Farrow,High Wall and Sharps...The shiny farrow is going to be my 40-65 Maynard. AKA 40-2.3 AKS 40 Krag. It will be a little heavier on porpose(Flipper) as it will fling 400 grns with 65 grns. The Hummer shoots 300s and 50 grns. Not too bad but you'll know you shot it at the end of a match. Don't want the 40 to undo my new shoulder...

Where did you get the Farrow Action. Is it one of the cast "kits" that Storey used to make?

These came from the guy in East Texas that bought him out the first time.

How about a close up of that stock if you have one. That is a beautiful grain pattern.

Nice rifle, you've built an heirloom there. You can tell something about a man that takes pictures in his comfortable boots!

The only thing I didn't build was the rear sight. It's a "Parts Unknown" long range.
The barrel was made in the shop I worked in,drilled reamed and rifled by "moi".
The case hardening was done in house too. Charcoal packed with some "toe of bat and eye of newt" to get the nice colors. All done in a pottery kiln. 1450 degrees for a couple hours and dumped in slightly warm water. Quite exciting!
The wood finish is Pro Sheen from Brownells. Many coats(20? I didn't count),applied with lintless towels and lightly sanded between with 400 grit to break the shine. The rifle is "Zeroed" at 200 yards with the rear sight all the way down. 500 meters is only 1/2 inch up on a long staff sight. Who knows how far it will shoot! 9.5 lbs of fun shooting. I just hope the 40-65 Maynard witt look as good and shoot the same or maybe a little better since I lapped the 40 cal barrel.

Thanks again for the kind words. She is my pride and joy.......
