I've tried several holsters for the 44 mag I own and definitely settled on a cross draw for it's comfort and quick use.

So, I would also like a cross draw holster for the new Ruger 45 LC 5.5 inch I have. Are they all about the same or is there a particular brand/style that stands out. I don't use a custom belt, I just want the holster.

Opinions?

The Freedom arms cross draws are my favorite. The Ruger Blackhawk will fit it very well.

Is it just me or is that trigger finger inside of the guard?

Changeling, I recently bought a Galco S.A.O. holster for a Ruger SA and I'm really pleased with it. Great leather, great execution of design, and it's wearable either crossdraw or straight draw - not a bad added feature. Carries the gun very well for me, though I've taken to wearing it straight draw 'cause as an old fart, old habits are hard to break and that's the way I've carried one for 40+ years. I'll get used to the crossdraw duting fishin' season in 2010, though. Much easier to use my rods that way, I think. FWIW.

Check out El Paso saddlery. We have several of their holsters and they
are extremely well made.

not sure if they're still around, but a roy baker pancake, of appropriate size, can be mounted either cross or straight draw, with a couple of different angles for each. pretty comfortable, pretty reasonable and simple as it gets. and adaptable to many different frame sizes within the same size holster ie. s/w large frame, ruger single action, colt python and perhaps a redhawk might fit the same holster. that's pretty flexible in my mind.

There's a pretty decent combination holster out there made by Ringler custom leather - it can be worn as both a shoulder holster, cross draw or strong side carry. The price isn't bad for what you get but for some just looking for a general duty holster, it would be very high priced. Here's Von's website:

Good luck on getting a Freedom Arms. I ordered one in October for my model 97. Haven't seen it yet. Thinking about ordering an El Paso and canceling the FA.

I own several EPS holsters and a couple of belts--nice stuff, but they aren't exactly fast delivery. Funny thing, I've never caught myself drawing an auto or a DA revolver with my finger on the trigger, but my natural inclination with a hogleg is to use the trigger as part of the handle, with my thumb pressing the hammer _forward_. Have to concentrate on keeping that finger straight.....

As I understand it, Freedom Arms contracts out for their holsters. They have changed manufacturers - not sure how long ago. The new holsters may be different from the old holsters.

As for the delays in ordering, perhaps they are not yet satisfied with their new supplier....?

I have one of their holsters for my M97 from about four years ago and am very pleased with the quality!

Well I havebeen checking out the holster suggestions for a few days. I really like the Freedom Arms cross draw model. However some seem to be having trouble getting it so I emailed Freedom Arms for more information. Will let you know what they have to say.

I like these guys and the crossdraw holster I bought from them was reasonable and decent. Not a custom holster but serviceable.

I bought the double loop cross draw one and it is nice they do make left handed ones too.

Not real flash, but soft and don't stick into you when you get in and out of a vehicle, the Uncle Mike's work for me. Quiet against the brush as well. Cheap too.

This is getting to be a PITA. For some reason Freedom Arms hasn't answered my emails. When you look at the crossdraw holster on there web site it is for the right side of the body, don't show a left side one so don't know if they have one, don't know if it comes in "Rough out Leather" , don't know if they are going to answer.

One of the other leather shops advertises a 7 deg cross draw holster, thats about straight up, hardly a cross draw.

Maybe I'll just get a "sack" draw, LOL, should be able to find that. :violin:
