i am going to rebarell my armi sports 56-50 spencer so it will be acurate with the lyman515-139D 340gr bullet the bullet is .733 inch long the groove diameter will be.512 inch the greenhill formular recomends a 1 in 53.6 twist rate, this sounds too slow to me, my aim is to shoot out to 300 meters or more so i think i will need a faster twist, any help would be apreciated

Pushing that short bullet out to 300 may get interesting :) Also, maybe CRS creeping in these days but thought at least some of the originals had gain twist.

One calculator I looked at says minimum twist for that bullet (512, 340, .733) would be about 1:40"

Again, the best load, twist info would be from someone shooting one out to 300 + yds.

300 meters is indeed interesting whith the 56-50 but once you get the sights set it is suprisnly acurate in a original springfield converted spencer rifle which has a twist rate of 1 in 42,pouder is 40gr FF swiss bullet is rapine 512-350Twheight is 354 gr lenthis .743 inch this rifle belongs to a frend who seldom shoots it now because of its age,if i can get mine to shoot as well i will be very hapy,i am only going to youse it for target at known distances so the huge rainbow wont mater ,i have had very good results shooting the 44-40 with BP out to 400 meters, once you figer out were to set the sights hits are very repetable

I have a Cimeron Spencer carbine that I shoot quite a lot. I have not measured the twist but I am shooting a Rapine 370 gr FP bullet that I bought originally for a smith carbine. I size it to 512 for the spencer. I get good accuracy out to 200 yards but have not fired it any further than that. The limiting thing is the rather poor sights and the heavy trigger mine has.

my arni sports spencer rifle has a 1 in 20 inch twist rate and nealy a 1/2 inch of freeboar acuracy is terible with the short bullets it does allright with a lyman 515-141 435gr bullet at 100 meters but you can only get 30gr FF pouder behind the bullet so 100 meters is maxium, and any shorter bullet and you would be beter off with a smoothboar,i have replaced the sights on mine and litened the triger

The program I have asked for a velocity. I entered 1000fps. The calculation came to 1:62.

1000fps is about right i have clocked a 40gr FF swiss behind the lyman 340gr bullet out of a 30inch barell at 1083 to 1091 fps
