My brother just e-mailed this to me. There are some funny things in it, but some very true comparisons as well.

I'm having to paste the link as I don't believe I can reformat it and post it here.

Enjoy.

I think the mosin is the next rifle on my list. Since its only 80 bucks, it will not hurt my Shiloh Sharps fund.
The 54R can be reloaded rite?

Yep it can.

Brass is a sometimes hard to come by as the surplus 7.62x54R is all Berdan primed. Graf had it from Prvi Partizan a while back. Otherwise it's the Norma brand, and it costs a small fortune.

Dies are available from LEE or RCBS. LEE on a limited production basis. Midway has 'em though http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=459745

Funny and true.
I have been leaning towards a Mosin M91/30 from J&G Sales. That t-shirt would be an excellent addition to it. I may need another drink and order my X-mas present to myself!! And a t-shirt odf course![smilie=l:

If you can't find brass and Grafs has the 8x56R brass you can size that down to 7.62x54R , trim, and end up with thicker necks.

Who knows, I was at Dunham's and the clerk asked, "do you want the one with the skinny barrel of the fat one", holding up a mint Finn. Well for $79.99 I naturaly took the fat barrel!

I want an m44.
That looks beatup on the outside but is excellent inside, bore etc.,inletting, and matching.
Sometimes you find 'em that way cheap.
I've got the brass, dies.... I'm all set - just need the rifle!

My 7.62x54r Lee dies came today, from Midway. I've been collecting brass, have a good stash, and will be launching a cb project for my Russian. My plan is to cover the range from Red Dot to slow powders w/COW, and hopefully even some pp. If all goes well it will be shot in a milsurp silhouettes match against my partner's Finn. We're reenacting the Winter War, I'll be the rooskies.

If'n I was to buy a Mosin it would have to be M38.

I have a 91/30 that I would sell FTF - only. But they're common as a six penny nail, wish that was the case for the 38's.

You can get loaded brass cased, boxer primed, Prvi Partizan ammo from Ammunition To Go (http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/catalog1/product_info.php/pName/100rds-762x54r-prvi-partizan-182gr-fmj-ammo/cName/762x54r-fmj-ammo) for $62.95/100 and have brass afterward for reloading for cheaper than buying new brass.

I have to agree with the article as I have all three types of rifle and it is very accurate as to the good and bad parts of them. I have one other use for my 91/30 that is not mentioned and that is to spear fish. I tried it last summer and it worked like a champ for that chore. You firts pin the fish to the stream bed then give a flip to the rifle and they end up on the bank. I go two nice trout that way.

i don't know about "honest", but atleast humorous.

good site

there is no way i would keep an ar that shot 5moa......
and i own them all...(ar's/ak's/mn's)
they are all good for thier intended use.

the bottom line...in one arena...the vintage mn's have beat the ak, and sad to say are doing well against our ar's......we are learning. we have added a heavier bullet and more ar10's.
